While the text appears to have lost all of it's formatting, it actually hasn't. Norton pastes the text in a comma-separated values (CSV) format which is ideal for when you want to analyse the Security History data in another application.
I think IE 8 is getting in the way a bit here. As the file here has been posted as attachment, you need to right-click on the link and and select 'Save target as...' if you want to view the text file's contents properly. Once the file has been saved, use MS Excel to open this text file. When you open the file in Excel, the 'Text Import Wizard' will appear. If you choose 'Delimited' and specify that the delimiter is a Comma, Excel will open the file and will neatly arrange the data into a tabular format for you.
A similar process can be applied to your error report above which is why Reese originally asked for the error information to be pasted directly into a reply post. You can copy and paste the error information straight from your browser and paste it into Excel. Excel has a 'Text to Columns' and a 'Transpose' feature that can quickly turn your error report text shown above back into a format that resembles the original Security History entry:

Hi Johannes
The Security History Export feature gives you the option to save the information as a Text file instead of an MCF file. Click on the Export link in the Security History window and you should see a 'Save as type' dropdown box below the 'File name' box. Select the 'Text file' option here to save the information to a text file.
While your reply to aalim's post indicates that the procedure didn't work, can you please confirm that you performed aalim's removal/re-install procedure in SAFE mode? That is, you started the computer in SAFE mode by tapping the F8 key during startup and selected the 'SAFE mode' option and, that you performed the removal/re-install procedure while the computer was in SAFE mode?
Thanks
Its more and more users with the same problem - but i have Vista.
I have testad all your ideas.
Thank you all!

I'm having a similar problem as outlined here: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/NIS-2012-keeps-freezing-and-locking-up/td-p/528886
Right now, I'm just trying to ride it out as I don't want go through having to to uninstall, reinstall etc., without any guarantee it will even work. I figure as long as things stay green, I'm okay, but I'm very wary of clicking the settings, performance or any of the tabs.
NIS 2012 definitely seems slower. Perhaps I'll have to end up going back to 2011. It shouldn't have to be this way.
Another NIS 2012 with the same problem. http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/NIS-2012-VERY-Slow-Opening-GUI-and-Accessing-Settings/m-p/530862/highlight/false /Johannes
Well what we see has lost it's formating .... ....
The point I was making was that it was not garbage or random junk.
I did try to see if I could paste it into Excel but it did not take and I wasn't prepared to spend the time in trying to save and import etc.

Hey, I'm having the same problems.
I reverted back to 2011 using the Norton Removal Tool to make sure it was a clean un/install and would advise you do the same untill it gets sorted, as in my mind theres no point in using a semi-working security suite.
Hi there!
I think it would be a shame to go back to NIS 2011 but hopes that the techniques solve the problem quickly. Many are affected - how can Symantec miss this in development?
/Johannes
I have also the same issue.
Good bless Malilla!
Personally, I can't recall anyone reporting such issues during Beta, so I will take this opportunity to invite some of you to join in when the Beta testing for NAV/NIS 2013 begins. The more people, and PC configurations, the better the chances are that these problems will arise and be corrected during the Beta phase.
I switched back to NIS2011. When starting up NIS2011 it just pop up within a fraction of a second (SSD). NIS2012 on the other hand is a bit slower. Once started up, the whole menu, scrolling it doesn't feel smooth.
Turned back to NIS2011 and I'm happy again. Especially I have a SSD I noticed this directly.
I will wait when NIS2012 is getting a patch or somehting.
Can anyone at Symantec tell us if you working on a solution or not?
Best regards:
/Johannes
Everythings works great when i change to NIS 2011.
But when i install NIS 2012 again "Settings" not working.

You better wait and see, if they are going to patch NIS2012. That's what I'm doing right now.

Dear Reese!
Yes, the status of the problem seems to be "Submited" to your error-base.
Thanks for the help!
/Johannes
Your submission is now showing up in our system. Thanks!
I see the hang but there wasn't enough information in the submission for me to make much sense of it. That doesn't mean much, though, since I don't work on this area of the product. We'll probably have to get someone else involved and use some other techniques to diagnose this.
On a slightly different note, it looks like the Norton Gadget failed to show up for you once yesterday. It looks like this was an unusual situation and probably won't happen again but if you start noticing this frequently, let us know.
There are also some other errors from your system yesterday but they shouldn't concern you. Some community watch data didn't get uploaded to our servers correctly and people are already researching why that might be.

elsewhere, your item is a bit off topic but just to let you know, your particular issue (different from the OP's) should be addressed in the next update. Do you use Remote Desktop or Fast User Switching on this machine? From my read on the issue it seems to be related to that.
