What is it you would like to use from System Works?

To make my system Run more smoothly - as a bonus, I would like to use it to sort out my File and stuff to make sure they are correct and everything - although that is my main reason for wanting to use it (see Bold).

It will run more smoothly if you use Ccleaner as well. What exactly do you want to use?

Stu: What exactly do you want to use?

What do you mean?

I think Stu want to know if you only want it for PC Optimization. Or do you need a special tool from System Works.

Cheerio Lars

Here you'll find the differences between all the different products.

 http://www.symantec.com/norton/products/overview.jsp?pcid=sp&pvid=nsw2008

What part of the programs would you like to use?

I have looked on the Store and looked at both Products but they look to do the exact same thing, although I think S.E. has some Added Features, but it is hard to tell because they are doing the same thing; that is why I need someone to explain it to me so I know 100-per-cent.

Stu: I have already explained in a Previous Post.

Looks like the difference is within the backup features

Norton SystemWorks Standard Edition: Diagnoses and repairs PC problems; does Norton SystemWorks Basic Edition do this as well?

And can I Install either on them on my system without conflicting with Norton Interent Security?  If not, how can I Install them without affecting N.I.S.?

Yes, Norton InternetSecurity and Norton SystemWorks can be installed and functioning on the same computer at the same time.

To compare features between the various versions of SystemWorks, see this link.

I hope this helps!

Thanks, Dave!

Won't Norton AntiVirus in N. S.W. Interfer with the Norton Internet Security AntiVirus?  Can I just Install it as it comes or do I need to do a Custom Install?

I apologize if this sounds overly complicated.

It depends on which versions of the software are involved. Older versions of NIS and NSW (06 and earlier) will default to the newer version of NAV (whether that be NSW or NIS). For example: Let’s say you're trying to install NSW 05 over NIS 06.  NSW will install and not install NAV, as the newer version (NIS 06) wins.

With newer versions, NAV is "bundled" with NSW, but they are installed separately. It is possible to install NSW and not NAV.

Newer versions (like the 08 products) will ask you first to uninstall NAV. So if you try to install NAV over NIS, it will ask you to uninstall the existing NAV.

If you're installing NSW 08 over NIS 08, NSW will function fine. BUT, if you attempt to install NAV (that was bundled with NSW 08) over NIS 08, it will simply ask you to uninstall NIS 08 if you wish to use NAV. Likewise, if you install NIS 08 over NSW 08 (w/NAV), NIS will uninstall the NAV from NSW.

This falls in line with Symantec moving to a yearly subscription based service. In doing this, we are providing you with the most recent versions of the product and up-to-date feature set.

The only difference between NSW Basic and NSW Standart is that the basic edition does not include NAV. Symantec recommends using NSW Basic if you also have NIS installed, as NIS includes NAV. Actually, NSW Basic is quite similar to Norton Utilities (this product was discontinued after version 2002).

The Basic Edition (B.E.) does contain Auto-Protect which means it must have N.AV because Tony advised me to do a Custom Scan and I can confirm that B.E. does have Auto-Protect.

Dave: When I am going to Install these mentioned Products, I will Install the Late-est Versions.  Is B.E. due for a New Product at the same time N.I.S. 2009 will be Released?  How will that work in relation to what you have mentioned and what one should I Install first and how should I Install B.E.?

What you said is a bit overly-complicated and, if you could, I would be Greatful if you could explain it a bit more and make it easier to understand.

I'm not certain when Norton SystemWorks will be refreshed, sorry.

If I were in your shoes, I would first install Norton SystemWorks without NAV and this install Norton InternetSecurity.

Thanks, Dave.

Could someone from symantec tell me when B.E. is going to be Updated to the 2009 Version?

Dave: So, say B.E. is not Released at the same time N.I.S. 2009 is Released and my N.I.S. 2008 Subscription Runs Out before the B.E. 2009 is Released, what do you suggest I do in that Situation?

Dave: What do you mean: "...without NAV and this install Norton InternetSecurity."?

"...without NAV and this install Norton InternetSecurity." has a typo in it.

It SHOULD read "...without NAV and then install Norton InternetSecurity."

Sorry for the confusion. SpellCheck worked fine, it was my fingers that mis-typed a real word.

As long as your not installing NAV with NSW, you won't need to uninstall NIS (and vice versa).

And I doubt anyone here will tell you when the next version of NSW will be released. That's the type of business secret we try to keep as long as we can. :smileywink:

Can I just mentioned that, when I Installed B.E. Trailware,  all Compents were just Installed with everything in it except for GoBack and there seems to be nothing wrong with N.I.S.  Operation; just wondering if I really need to do a Custom Install (I will probably do this anyway but is there any point in it if everything seems fine at the moment, although it is Trailware and that seems to be different than actually buying the Product even although I have never Bought it?).

Let me see if I have got this right: If B.E. is not Released same time as I.S., then Install I.S. and, when B.E. is Released, Install everything but A.-V. and everything else I have installed on my computer, and just Install the Core Compents...?

Maybe, if you know, you could e-mail me when B.E. is going to be Released...

Thanks again.

Exactly, there shouldn’t be anything wrong. NSW and NIS can exist on the same computer at the same time. BUT if you had installed NAV, it would want to uninstall NIS (or NIS would want to uninstall NAV).
