Norton Internet Security and Shared Internet Connection

Hi JimSem,

As Dbrisendine and I have both noted earlier, your NIS logs still show firewall blocking occuring so please check the firewall rule more closely as outlined by Dbrisendine.

Best wishes.

Allen

I hate to tell you, but Norton products no longer support internet connection sharing.

I'm not saying you won't be able to get it to work, but if you do you may run into some other problems.

The way you have your system setup is called a peer-to peer or "ad hoc" network and if you were to ask a Symantec employee I'm pretty sure they would tell you support for that kind of network has been dropped.

I actually used a setup like that for years and at one time it was rather common.   I was suprised myself to find out it was no longer supported.  But it is unusual in the fact that the host system has 2 active IP address at the same time.  One for the internet and one for the peer-to-peer network.  I think you would really need to be able to set rules specfic to each network adapter rather than general rules trying to cover both.

I think the explination I heard was that type of internet connection isn't very common anymore because most people use routers these days.

Sorry to be the one to tell you but I hope you can get it working.

Dave
