Norton Internet Security failed to detect System Protection 2010 Malware

Yesterday while routinely surfing the web I was hit by the System Protection 2010 Malware.  I did not install anything so I'm not sure exactly how I was infected.  The Malware closed all my open programs and would not let me open any new ones. The only program it did not close was my Norton Internet Security.  I ran a quickscan on Norton and all it reported were tracking cookies.

I ended up shutting down and doing a system restore.  I wanted to email Norton to inform them of this hole in their antivirus and this website is virtually possible to get any support other than how to renew or register your antivirus.  I did see where they allowed you to forward them the quarantined virus for their review but isn't this basically doing their job for them?

I searched the website for information on the malware and couldn't find anything.  I tried running the power eraser software to make sure there weren't still traces left and the program eventually failed saying it could not get to server, even though my internet was running just fine.

With all the free options out there I thought I was being extra secure by having Norton Internet Security in place.  I guess I was wrong.  I will not be renewing my subscription and will be seeking other alternatives.
