The product Score is very very low.....

Norton Internet Security 2010

Version: 17.0.0.136

Product score: 67%

Level reached: 8

Protection level: Good

Thanks

Would be nice to see Matousec test current products instead of things some months old.

Also it really sounds weired that all the big guns including Symantec,Avira,Bit-Defender,Trend Micro,ESET ,F Secure were rated

either good or bad.

These are the products which actually do provide superior protection in all categories in AV-Comparatives tests.

Take a look at the latest Dynamic tests or the On-demand comparatives or Retrospectives.

So I doubt the results provided by these tests and they might even be trying to advertise the others.

NIS IS BEST !!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS  !!!

It just looks like a firewall test as some of the Products tested are Firewall only.

Some of the product results do seem to be the reverse of a lot of other tests and reviews

Quads

Yes, Matousec only tests the firewalls.  Most modern suites rely on other parts to keep the system secure.

I get the feeling Symantec isn’t all that interested in playing the leaktest game, either? The Smart Firewall doesn’t block the most basic leaktest, unless you turn it off for advanced mode. And why should it? It’s a recognized, harmless file connecting to a clean server. Personally, I’m more interested in my security application blocking malware than playing leaktest games for a list saying I’m X% protected against theoretical threats.

A recent NIS 2010 product review states:

"The firewall module made sensible decisions and deflected attacks without nagging. But it did permit our attacking PC to confirm the existence of the test machine, leaving it more at risk than with F-Secure."

Isn't making my PC invisible to the Internet a fundamental function of my Norton Internet Security 2010 Software? Is this why NIS 2010 got a 'Not Recommended' rating in the Matousec test?

Have you tried it?

NIS2010 stealths ports by default, and I for one has no problem getting full stealth.

If you're behind a router, you will need to bypass it, or it will be the router ports that are being scanned, not the software firewall.

Same review cycle, F-Secure product:

"On the plus side, the firewall proved perfectly robust at repelling intruders. Our attacking computer was unable to confirm the existence of the test PC, even while the client machine was happily able to communicate over the internet."

Is there a simple way to determine if NIS 2010 has fully stealthed my PC? How do I check?

Run the Shields Up! test.

Select All service ports to begin with. You will get the status Stealth, Open or Closed for each port.

Closed is just fine, btw.

Note that you can't be behind a router for the test to give accurate results, since it will be the router ports that are scanned, not your computer.

Stealth has nothing to with leaktests, though.
