When I run my computer
I keep getting a Norton popup that says either internet explorer or svchost is attempting to access the internet using one or more unrecognized modules "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SKYNETpllhkbpx.dll"
But this file doesn't exist when I look in that folder.
Until we get the rootkit out of your machine, there will be a number of things that don't work correctly. All the problems are related. Quads will be along later today due to time zone differences.
Some programs will be affected. All antivirus and security programs will be affected. You have an MSIVX rootkit, which is quite nasty. You would be best to wait until Quads gets back to you on what to do about it. He will provide the tools and the instructions. Don’t try to do anything with it yourself. Some that have tried to do that ended up in a worse mess.
Hi you can use the instructions found in this link or you can upload a screenshot from off your own desktop by using Nortons own uploader.Do you know how to take a screenshot of your machine?? Ctrl+PRT Scr then save as a Jpeg through the paint application on your machine...(XP..I don't know if Vista is the same)
Here is a better link on how to use Nortons uploader.
You have Kaspersky or parts of it on your machine. This does not play nice with Norton. When you have two, or in your case, three real-time antivirus scanners, you are going to have problems. Spybot S & D with Teatimer enabled is also a recipe for disaster. You will need to go on the Kaspersky website and download the appropriate removal tool. Run it a couple of times with a reboot in between. Disable teatimer so that it can't conflict with Norton.
Because of the other AV scanners on your system, the Norton installation may have been corrupted. You should probably also remove Norton. Before you do that, download the Norton removal tool. Run it a couple of times, and reboot. Then reinstall Norton. This should give you a cleaner installation.
