Norton Internet Security Offline Uninstallation

Hello.

Recently I found that my computer was infected with the Virut Virus. After many attempts to get rid of it and disinfect files, it continues to block anti virus websites.
Therefore, I plan to wipe my PC and reinstall Windows.
However, the virus has stopped my computer from contacting Symantec Servers.
So, if I uninstall NIS 2010 before the wipe will I be able to reinstall it with the my Key?
I have installed it on 3 PC’s including the infected one.
So is it possible to uninstall it and be able to reuse the key?

Many thanks.

I'm just worried that after the wipe of my computer when I re-enter my key it will say that I've used up all 3 PC's because my infected computer could not tell the Symantec Servers that it's been uinstalled because the virus blocks all anti-virus websites.

Would this happen, and if so is there an alternative?

Hi TJ01,

Before wiping your computer, you can check in your Norton account how many activations are still remaining (if you are able to access the website):

http://www.mynortonaccount.com/

If you do encounter the message that you have exceeded the number of activations allowed after reinstalling Windows and NIS, you can contact Symantec Customer Support (you can chat with them for free at the link below), explain the situation to them, and they can sort it out for you - it should be no problem at all:

No need to worry, you can activate without any problems. Incase if you receive the message "exceeded number of installation limits", you can contact Customer Service . They will reset the key and resolve the issue.

Vineeth--

Thanks for your help.

I spoke to a very helpful representative who changed my Installation count for me, so I can now install it onto to my fresh PC.

Thanks Again. You can marked this as Solved if you wish. :)

Hi TJ01,
