Norton Internet security will not open; Norton toolbars causing firefox and IE start issues

I am having multiple problems.  1. I cannot get NIS to open. I can get Live Update and Quickscan to open mini windows but the product itself will not open.  I started to do a quickscan but decided to stop and got this error message  Error: "8504,100" appears on my Norton product.  However when I rescanned and let it finish scanning, no error message.

2.  This next problem has been ongoing for a couple of weeks and I have been troubleshooting Firefox 19 and IE 9.  When i put my computer into sleep mode then wake up both programs work.  If i have to restart the computer, then neither program will start.  I scanned the computer multiple times, and have reinstalled Firefox 10-12 times, and have had to go back to IE8.  I thought this was an issue with the programs until today, when I disabled Norton Toolbar and Norton Vulnerability Protection in both Firefox and IE9.  Both programs work so far.

I don't know how long the issue with NIS not opening has been going on, as I just tried today to open the program.

I run Windows 7, Firefox 19.0.2 and IE9.

Does anyone have any solutions to my dilemma(s)?

I have noticed strange behavior with NIS 2013 since yesterday. Here is what I've experienced:

 

1. Sometimes when I click on "Quick Scan" or "Full System Scan" in the NIS 2013 UI, nothing happens. Yet, Norton's status is green and everything is up-to-date.

 

2. Sometimes when I click on the NIS desktop shortcut, nothing happens. Yet, Action Center reports that NIS is protecting me. I've even seen the NIS taskbar icon disappear after hovering my mouse over the icon (happened only once).

 

3. When "Full System Scan" does run, the scan finishes abnormally fast. For example, when I didn't have these issues, a full scan scanned just over 430,000 files every time. Now, NIS scans just over 200,000 files before it completes (with no threats found).

 

Each time I run Norton Autofix, it tells me it successfully fixed an installation issue. But when I run Norton Autofix again, it tells me the same thing again (successfully fixed an installation issue).

 

I have tried reinstalling NIS 2013, including after running the Norton Removal Tool. I have tried scanning for additional threats using Norton Power Eraser, which found nothing. I am pretty sure my system is clean.

 

Something is strange and not right  and it all started yesterday... Could it be a recent update that's faulty? Is anyone else experiencing these, or similar issues?

This seems to have fixed the problems.  I can access Norton, and have reactivated the Norton Toolbars in IE and Firefox, and have rebooted multiple times.  Everything seems to be working.

Thank you for your help.  How can I turn off the Search Match?  I keep getting matches sent to me for this problem, lol.
