Norton Internet Security Won't Open

I want to run a system scan with Norton Internet Security. When I click the desktop icon, nothing happens. When I right click and select "Open", nothing happens. When I go to Start, Programs, Internet Security and click on "Open", nothing happens. When I reboot my computer and click on the Internet Security desktop icon, the menu comes up for less than a second, then disappears. After that, it won't come up anymore. I believe I have a virus - a keep getting an alert that winscmde is using a high percentage of my CPU. I want to do a full system scan, but am not able. I ran Power Eraser, but it didn't find anything. Suggestions?

I am having the exact same problem. I cannot open the program, though I can get the menu from the icon in task bar.

I have done the following....

  • Downloaded and run NPE in Safe Mode w/ networking
  • Ran Full System Scan in Safe Mode
  • Restarted
  • Re-installed NIS 2013 using the re-install tool here. It fixed it until a restart was done.

I am about fed up with this version, I never had this issue with NIS 2012.

I had the same problem a couple of days ago. I uninstalled and replaced with another suite. I like Norton and it has potentail, but there are some things they just need to fix.

I'm sure you used the Norton Removal Tool as part of the uninstallation, but thought I'd mention it in case someone else tries to install another product and ends up with conflicts.  :smileywink:

I did not actually. I have to switch around so frequently I am pretty good at cleaning it up myself. Still a good suggestion for most people to use the NRT. I just wish they would fix these issues so I could quit swapping products around.

I should add...

using XP Media Center Edition SP3

Is there are fix to open the program???

I am having the same problem and have descibed my issues in other posts. Sometimes my NIS desktop icon doesn't work, nor does my Vault. But other times, everything runs normally.

I tried everything. Reinstalling; Norton Removal Tool, Norton Power Eraser. And nothing.

I think the last product update has made NIS unstable, and assume that Symantec is on it and working on a patch...

Thanks.
