Norton Internet security

Hello

I just bought the 2014 Internet Security disk. What does 3 licenses mean?

Hi flamingred:

Unfortunately writing and distributing malare is just as profitable, if not more so, than the software that fights it.  Malware is now updated and changed frequently to prevent security software from recognizing or reacting to it.  The antivirus product is only a part of the security for the machine.  Updating programs, patching vulnerabilities, maintaining the antivirus product, and user experience all play a part.

We have all had our fair share of learning experiences.

There are several very good free malware removal forums that will work with you to clean up the machine.  They are very good at what they do.  Bleeping Computer is very busy and you may have a long wait.  The others may be faster.  It shouldn't be necessary to reformat and reload.

Hi,

can you please tell us the exact version of your Norton product?
1. Open the main window
2. Click on Help & Support -> About menu
3. On the About window find the version number (it will look like this: 18.6.0.29)

Thanks!

18.6.0.29 is correct. However there are 3 internet security items on my account. One expires jan 2012 the other 2 have expired and I think your machine is trying to get me to buy one of them!

Those 2 expired should be previous ones: one activation from Jan. 2010, and one from Jan. 2011.

Where did you buy the last version? On the Norton Online Store, your local store, or any other online store (like Amazon)?

If you bought a boxed copy, does it say for "up to 3 houshold PCs"?

You can log on to your Norton Account  and see how many days remaining in your subscription, and for which Product Key. Once you get the Product Key for which you have active subscription, make a note of it. Then do the following:

1 Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet.

2 Start your Norton 2011 product.

3 On the bottom of the Norton product window, click Renew

4 In the box, type in your Product Key.

5 Click Next or the arrow button.

6 Follow the on-screen instructions.

7 When finished, review your subscription details, and then click DONE.

I don't think anyone has grasped the problem! I Have Internet Security which will expire Jan 2012 and I DON'T HAVE TO "RENEW" TILL THEN! Why is your stupid machine telling me to renew? PLEASE look into my account and delete  EVERYTHING which has expired because your stupid machine won't let me!

You unfortunately can not remove previous licenses from your Norton Account. This is the way it was designed.

Does the red X notification comes up on every of your machines, or only one of them? Also does it only turn off your Firewall, or other functions are turned off as well?

Hi catchlittle,

A red X and disabled Firewall are not the way that a Norton product advises the user that it is renewal time.  I am not seeing the connection that you are making between these events and your Norton Account, which is basically just a repository of your subscription history.

If you are getting renewal notices they are possibly in regards to your previous license, and contacting Customer Support to stop them would be the best thing to do.  If you are having issues with the status of your Norton program, please provide more specific information about any alerts you are getting, including error codes, etc.  If your product is showing as having expired, try clicking Support > Subscription Status to make sure your program is current on the correct number of days remaining on your subscription.  Also make sure your system clock is running normally and shows correct date and time.

As CyberLife mentioned, if your current license is not registered you could be having issues like you suggest - clicking "Renew" and entering your latest Product Key might solve them.  You will not be billed for another subscription - you are simply making sure that the correct key is recognized.
