Norton issues with Firefox and ccSvcHst

Hi,

I am using Norton 360 ver 2.4.0.4 and Norton Add-on pack ver. 2.1.0.55 and since renewing and updating versions I have had the following problems:

1. On shutdown I get an "Program not responding" error for ccSvcHst and have to manually end it. In my processes box I have 2 ccSvcHst processes running one has the user name System the other is under my name - not sure which one is stalling upon shutdown

2. I have a toolbar on my firefox called Norton Phishing Protection and I don't want it - how do I remove it?

3. Ever since I did my Norton upgrades Firefox no longer saves my tabs even when I click Save and Quit? This MAY be a firefox issue but it only started once I did my updates.

If anyone can help me solve any of these problems that would be great. I have seen a lot about the ccSvcHst error but  nothing definitive.

Thanks,

Jason

In answer to:

  1. Do you get an 'End Now' prompt?
  2. Go to View>Toolbars>deselect the toolbar.
  3. Sounds like a Firefox issue.

Let us know how this goes, thanks.

1. Yes I get an End Now prompt

2. Well that worked easily enough.

3. I was afraid of that - I did a quick Google search but I can't really find a solution. They have an app. that I can download so I might try it.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason

In answer to  Number 1, can you apply step 1 in this thread and let us know if it helps.

Thanks

Hi Johna,

Thanks for the link I will consider that for a fix. One comment I would like to make though is that if this is a Symantec Issue (and my internet research seems to point in that direction) then I believe that it should be fixed within the parameters of a Symantec solution by way of an update or patch. It is not clear to me if you represent the company or not so I do not mean this as a dis towards you directly but if I purchase a product I expect it to work properly. I am not particularly computer savvy so the idea of going in and changing registry commands concerns me somewhat and I believe it to be a failure on Symantec's part to not provide a proper solution. Ultimately the final solution may well be to switch to another Antivirus software.

Again, Johna thank you for taking the time to provide assistance for this issue and perhaps there are other fixes out there. It would be great to get an explanation from a Symantec representative as to what is going wrong so I could try to fix it rather than just avoid it or cover it up.
