So i would say maybe the last day or so my Norton has told me that the license expired and i couldn't understand why. The program told me to restart. Now one of the other solutions involves me using the disc to reinstall software but the problem is i dont remember what i did with the Disc, or the code that came along with it. Will there be any other way of getting the protection back?
The error number is 8504,100, if that'll help me with this problem.

Hello Bravado
Welcome to the Norton Community Forum
Please check the time and date on your computer to see if it is correct.
You can find the key to your product at www.mynortonaccount.com
If you tell us what Norton product, we can provide the link you can use to d/l the program. Thanks.

Go to the C:\Windows\System32 folder and see whether you can locate the d3d9.dll file. If you can see the file inside, then uninstall and reinstall the Norton product as suggested in this support document:

If you cannot locate the file, please let us know.
I'd be interested if you could explain the significance of that dll to the user's problem -- it appears to be something to do with Active-X ?
Yeah but i don't have my original norton disc., so how would i be able to install, then reinstall?
When I had this error last time, and I contacted support on this problem, I was told that this problem can happen if there is anything wrong with the DirectX install on the machine. They wanted me to check the presence of the d3d9.dll file.

floplot can give you a link to a one piece current file you can SAVE / download to a place on your computer where you can find it again and then install from it. I prefer this to using RUN or a download manager.

Thanks -- did that in fact cure it?

Yes, they asked me to copy the d3d9.dll file from my Windows installation disk to the Ssystem32 folder. I think running Windows Updated will also do the trick if this file is missing.
Not easy if you don't have an installation disk although some of the Recovery Manager systems on computers these days do allow extracting single files -- I know HP/Compaq do but you can't do that from the Recovery DIsks you can create.
I don't know what Windows Update would do especially if it showed that you had once downloaded and installed it but it had gotten corrupted or gone missing. I don't know how or if WUD deals with a second try.
Hello Bravado
I can give you the link for your Norton product so you can reinstall it if you tell me what program you want to reinstall. Is it Norton Antivirus 2011, Norton Internet Security, N 360 premier, N 360 Standard, Is it a netbook edition of one of the programs? So you can see, I would need to know what program you want to reinstall. Thanks.
