Norton Live Update Check done / Download done / Process Updates - Failed to complete?

My question says it all.  Why is this update failing to complete?

My question says it all.  Why is this update failing to complete?

I am using Firefox 24.0

I am using Windows XP, Version 2002,  Media Center Edition,, SP3

I am occasionally using Internet Explorer 8

I am running low on my Local Disc (C:), and I've been currently trying to increase my Free Space on this disc.  My status now shows Free Space = 201MB.  I do not know if this may be the cause of my problem in processing the current Norton Live Updates.

Hope this helps anyone who responds to this concern and thread.

Thanks for all that. Can you just add:

...... Name and Version ID of the Norton product that you are using -- Help or Support / About is where that is, in the format of nn.nn.nn.nnn where n is a number.

Thanks

I am using: Norton Version: 21.1.0.18

Thank you for immediate responses.  Great help.  Really appreciated.

Hi Lightwave,

It happens occasionally, usually it's auto-cured, wait a little then try a manual LiveUpdate after 10-15 minutes and see if it's resolved.

Try also from the main GUI Support - Get Support and see if it returns anything.

Hope this helps,

Kind regards,

We really appreciate you quick and patient replies -- so many people don't understand that we can't see your machine!

One last thought -- have you rebooted the computer after updating?

Hi,

I do not know if a reboot will solve the issue as the user reported that the LU fails to process the updates, so without the latest update database NIS will not ask for a reboot, if required.

It happened to myself too, very few times, as to other users and usually upon the next manual or automatic LU session NIS updates completed successfully.

Regards,

Lightwave, if you're running short on space, you could try using your Disk Cleanup function, and also look at some of your restore points, and delete some of the old ones. That will free up some critical space. Any programs you don't use any more, as well ?

Humm: Restore Points, deleting old ones.  Gee, I didn't realize that each restore point takes up so much space on my Local Disc (C:).  That seems to make alot of sense too.  I just never thought of removing old restore points.  I'll have to give this a try and report back at you.  Standby, I'll report on the results soon.

Also one of you also suggested waiting and trying LU again.  I will also do so, and report back soon.

Thank you folks.

Hi Lightwave,

Be advised, you can delete all the restore points or you can delete all but the most recent restore point.

You can not pick and choose which ones you desire to delete, as each point is built on the one prior to it, which is built on the one prior to it etc.  Thus if you break the chain (trail) you deem all points after that one useless.

Another alternative is that you can change the amount of space allocated to system restore points - once you hit that amopunt, the oldest restore point will automatically be deleted.  By setting the amount of space say to 1 GB will never permit the useage of more than 1 GB od psace for system restore.

Hope this helps some.

Yank,

For the second part I agree, how could you delete ALL the RP in let's say W7 OS???

There is only the option "Delete all BUT the most recent RP"

BTW,  you can delete all the restore points by turning off System Restore.

Also, O/P is using XP and is space restricted, so the Restore Point function can be used to advantage...

OK, excuse mon ignorance....

@ Apostolos:

What ignorance? - that's how we all learn - ask the question, get the answer - press on with pride! :smileywink:

Ok, as promised, I am back with my progress report.

Seems my efforts to perform Disc Cleaning for my Local Disc (C:) have indeed freed more space on my disc.  I now have 2GB, which is much better than it was before.  I believe this effort helped me add a bit more than 1GB to my free space on (C:).  Thank you for telling me to execute Disc Cleanup.

Today, I went back and checked the status of my Norton 360 Live Update.  For some reason, I didn't have to run the LU, since it fixed itself.  However, to be on the absolute safe side, I ran the LU again, and it completed successfully.  Great!  Once again, I am in "good hands with Norton 360."

Re System Restore Points: I wasn't really sure how to go back to a list of prior restore points.  But I did figure out how to call up the program.  I had two options:   1)Restore my computer to an earlier time  or  2)Create a restore point .  When I choose the first of these options, I see a calendar for Oct '13.  Only two date were bolded in Oct '13, the 25th and 26th.  I didn't do anything.

I was thinking from what somebody in this thread suggested that earrlier restore points are saved on this computer.  This doesn't appear so.  It seems my computer deletes prior restore points as my computer is being used and a new restore point is created.  So, I am confused about having an ability to manually deleting older restore points.

If I was able to delete older restore points then I was thinking this would've also freed up space on my Local Disc (C:).  I was thinking that each restore point takes up some amount of space on (C:).  Therefore, deleting old restore points has to free up space on (C:).  Again, I don't see how I can do this on my computer if my computer deletes prior restore points automatically.

Please explain if I am missing something here.  Thank you.

It's been a while since I had XP, but as I recall, depending on how big you have set the amount of space to allow for System Restore, Windows will automatically delete the oldest restore points first. If you only had a couple of restore points, and given you have a smallish hard drive, I'd be inclined to leave them. This link may help. For example you could set space allowed to say, 500MB. That should be plenty, if your space is restricted. Some people have also suggested setting it to 1-2 % of your total drive space.

@ Lightwave,

If you think that a "Thank you everybody" is the solution, well. what can I say, I think I'm done here as with many similar threads....

Good luck...
