Issue abstract:Suspect pop-up
Detailed description: I keep getting a pop up called Norton Migration which asks me to provide information to upgrade my app. There is no way of getting rid of this and I will not click on it for fear that it is a scam. Can anyone assure me that it is a genuine Norton product?

It says it is Norton Migration. There is no option but to click on "open the confirmation dialogue which makes me suspicious.
Hi. I am getting the same pop up window every time I boot up my mac Pro, ie: a NortonMigration window saying ‘Updating your Norton app’ and asking me to ‘Open the confirmation dialogue’. I too do not trust it.
I also get a system message saying that a new login script has been added - norton_migration_crashreport.sh and asking me if I want to allow it to run in the background. I go to System Settings/General/Login items and the file norton_migration_crashreport.sh is shown as an ‘item from an unidentified developer’. I disable it from running in the background but when I boot my mac up again the NortonMigration pop up appears and another copy of the above script is enabled for me to disable again. This all looks very unsafe.
Coincidentally it started after I got a virus detection after running a full scan on my Norton 360 for mac. The infection found was JS.Downloader!gen15. Norton said that it had been successfully quarantined but I am wondering if the virus has been fully dealt with?
I am running MacOs Sonoma 14.6.1 on an Intel chip.

my understanding…
as per Norton chat support…this is a legit Norton popup and it is just for latest update of your Norton application.
as per Norton chat support…Norton is just asking for permission to update the Norton user interface. Norton chat agent assured me that this is a legitimate Norton update.
Mac is a secure device…that is why it has to ask for permission for the update and it will not do any harm to your device.
@bjm
Thanks bjm. I really appreciate your help. I double checked with Norton Support as well and they confirmed what you said. I wanted to be doubly sure having just had the JS.Downloader trojan and seeing ‘item from an unidentified developer’ for the norton_migration_crashreport.sh script. I mentioned to the support assistant that maybe she could raise this with Norton to look at with Apple as it is a bit concerning. I’ll proceed with the software update and post how it goes. Thanks again for your help.
@OzCall did you get an answer on how to stop the Migration Popup every time you reboot? I am getting the same thing and I think I’ve given Norton 29.9.1 all the required permissions.
