Norton Missed a BIG Virus

Hi

I am up for renewal as of tomorrow.  Question is, I wonder why support didn't get back to me when on Dec 30th I had a virus go undetected which disabled my pc.  I in turn contacted my internet provider who safely logged me onto their premium site & now have to pay $14.95 a mo for 10 months.  I emailed support after having a chat with someone who couldn't understand why I was upset. What? Am I wrong to question this?   I wasn't happy then nor do I know what to buy now?
