Norton Mobile security, and other norton mobile apps

I have an adroid tablet (Nexus 7 (2013) 4G LTE ) and i have installed Norton Mobile security, added to it one of my multi -device licence and it works all nice (i guess)

but then i noticed the other Norton products

Norton Spot
Norton Snap
Norton Halt
Norton Identity safe
Noton Zone Cloud sharing
Norton Family

none of which are part of Norton Mobile security

At least not of my version ,

PS:my screen looks different from that one in http://community.norton.com/t5/Other-Mobile-Products/Norton-Halt-redirect/td-p/1085639 ,and the middle picture on the google store )

I don't have the boxes

- Call and SMS Blocking (while i can receive smses , a bit)

- Norton Apps (more noton apps)

Also I noticed that Norton Snap advices against some apps that Norton Mobile security agrees with.

Which should i believe.

Hi wmien.

I take the main part of your question to be whether to believe Norton Mobile Security or Norton Snap scan.

I am surprised that they differ but there could be a number of reasons.  Can you give a specific example?

One reason they could differ is that while they both cover websites Snap does its own independent check but NMS will be using browser features.  As NMS only supports the default android browser and Chrome, if you were using another browser NMS would not be providing the sort of protection that you would get with the others.  In this circumstance, you could expect a difference from Snap.

Does that help?  I look forward to your specific examples.

Normally if either gave a warning I would try and steer clear of the site.

As for the list of apps you quote, I think all are free and so you can use any of them if you wish.  If you have an Android phone I would recommend using Halt as it protects against some phone specific threats.

Similarly Snap can work from a QR code in a way that NMS cannot.

So look at the features of the apps and decide if you wish to use them.

[Edit - trying to catch up with your edits... What version of NMS do you have?  You say that you are using a Tablet - does this have phone features?  If not, I would not expect to need SMS call blocking features and this may be why NMS is not showing them.]

i have NMS version 3.8.0.1200 and I have 319 days of subsription left.

NWS says that i have an asus-nexus7

not sure if NMS makes a difference between the different Nexus 7 ,

there are 4 different tablets with that name ,

version 2012 wifi

version 2012 wifi & 4G

version 2013wifi

and

version 2013 wifi  & 4G

Maybe norton things it is a wifi only version, how can i know  what it thinks.

My device is an Nexus 7 (2013) 4G LTE (the tablet has its own sim card)

the android version is Kitkat 4.4.2

I can receive sms texts, and according to some i can also send them (but i don't know how yet)

some even say you can transform it to a normal smartphone (but then you net to "root" it or so and i haven't done that.

I forgot what the app was (i removed it later think it was a tethering- widget app , that snooped on all my information)

NMS said it was clean, but Norton snap said it was snooping.

sorry for my edit, thought that missing boxes was important,

what is in the more norton box?

I understa

Hello again wmein.

I was unsure if you had finished your second post as the "I understa" at the end makes me think that you intended to say more.  However the time for edits is over so I will try and respond.

I think NMS is assuming that your tablet is not a phone (as you say it is not) and therefore not offering phone facilities.  Maybe it is possible for you to receive SMS but I very much doubt you will receive many.  So I doubt that losing this feature is going to be a problem for you.  What I am not sure is if with the slightly odd arrangement for you to receive SMS messages is whether NMS could work with it.

NMS is not designed to work with rooted Android devices.  Which does not mean that it will not work but it does mean that it is not able to take advantage of facilities that arise through rooting as far as I am aware.

The "more norton box" would have revealed what you have already discovered, that there are several more Norton apps out there.   :smileywink:

Given that you are not sure what it was the led to the apparently different point of view between NMS and Snap I cannot comment further.  If it happens again, then note down the details and come back.

If it was a "snooping" issue then it may have been the sort of issue that has NMS reporting Google Drive as a risk on my phone, but one which it allows me to "trust".

I hope the above helps.  If you have any further questions then let us know.

All the best.
