Norton Monitor Rule detected

How do i disable annoying repetitive "Norton monitor rule detected for zoom" notification in lower right corner of Dell inspirion windows 10 laptop. Started appearing after updated zoom 2 days ago. Norton 360 Lifelock says version 1.0.0.0 is up to date as of 11/17/2021.

Edited: Monitor IS an available setting from what I see. Zoom monitors its services for quality and also other applications running on the system. So I would think resetting the firewall and allowing the zoom service to reappear, then checking the rules that way may be the easiest route in finding the rule and set it to allow or block. At least it can be determined if Zoom itself is setting a firewall rule on its own. Just a thought.

SoulAsylum:

Adding a rule shouldn't do anything, Norton is already alerting that a firewall rule violation has been met.

Maybe, OP has a Firewall Traffic or Program rule set to Monitor?

Check your Norton history under Firewall - Network Activities. If there are entries there open one. Look to the bottom right of the dialog for "more options". Open it. Lets see if there is a specific firewall rule that needs to be changed. Adding a rule shouldn't do anything, Norton is already alerting that a firewall rule violation has been met.

Add Traffic rules and Program rules
Program Control automatically creates most of the firewall rules that you need. You can add custom rules if necessary.

Only experienced users should create their own firewall rules.

YOU CAN ADD THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF FIREWALL RULES:

  • Traffic rules
  • Program rules

Create firewall rules using the Add Rules wizard
The Add Rule wizard leads you through the steps that are necessary to create firewall rules.

USE THE ADD RULE WIZARD

Curious, do you run Norton Smart Firewall -> Automatic Program Control On or Off?

You can create a rule that controls the communication between your computer and the computers on the network, based on various criteria. Some of the criteria are type of protocol, ports, Internet address, and direction of communication.

Select the action that the rule should take if all of the criteria are met. Your options are:

Allow
Allows the communication of this type to take place

For example, consider a Traffic rule with the following criteria: all inbound connections from Internet address 192.168.1.1 over port 8080. When you select Allow, Smart Firewall allows all connections that satisfy the other criteria of this Traffic rule.

Block
Prevents the communication of this type to take place

For example, consider a Traffic rule with the following criteria: all inbound connections from Internet address 192.168.1.1 over port 8080. When you select Block, Smart Firewall blocks all connections that satisfy the other criteria of this Traffic rule.

Monitor
Updates the event log each time that communication of this type takes place

This option lets you monitor how often this rule is used. Norton notifies you every time that the traffic matching the monitor rule criteria passes through your computer. You can view the event log under Firewall - Activities category in the Security History window.

Norton creates separate action rules to allow or block the programs that have only a Monitor rule associated with them. The Monitor rule must be of higher order than the action rule for successful log entry of the network event that is related to the program.

The monitor rule logs the network events. However, you need to create another Allow or Block rule to allow or block the network traffic.

Norton window in lower right home screen corner that keeps flashing is:

A MONITOR RULE WAS DETECTED FOR THE APPLICCATION ZOOM MEETINGS.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 10 and Chrome browser.

What SPECIFICALLY does the Norton alert say? We cannot read the text of it in your screenshot. Thanks in advance.
