Norton not picking up viruses and not removing them

Hello

I'm using norton 360 v2, and i have viruses on my pc that norton is not picking up, and not removing. I detected the viruses using noadware, and it lists that i have the following viruses,

trojan vundo       ---> Noadware was able to remove this one

trojan vundo       ---> Noadware was able to remove this one also

TROJ_VUNDO.BK

Troj/ConHook - o

Troj/ConHook - o

Troj/ConHook - o   (yes three of this one)

slagent

Also my cookies level keeps setting itself to allow all, every time i change this it goes back to allow all, i have no doubt that it is a virus. I've currently disabled my internet on my pc, and using my laptop. Ive also turned off system restore.

My pc uses windows Xp.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Just to update, ive run fxvundob.exe to remove the troj_vundo.bk but it says no vunbo.b detected. Also my pc has gone slower, and once i run no adware and click remove, it removes the tojans not the slagent. This then speeds my pc up, however i still cannot update my cookies level, and once i restart my pc and run the noadware scan it detects them all again (even the trojans).

Ive tried unistalling explorer and reinstalling it, but that doesnt help.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but i dont realy use noadware as i have norton, however just connected to net and allowed it to update itself. I've now run a new scan and its detected more viruses.

In addition to the previous ones,

I desperatley want to get rid of all viruses on my pc and i appreciate all suggestions.

Hi Jagatwal,

Instead of those fixes, better try your luck by using SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes AntiMalware. You can download trial/free versions using the links below:

SuperAntiSpyware

Malwarebytes AntiMalware

Download, install, update, and then run scan from the above programs(one by one). You can also try running the scan in Safe mode.

Yogesh

hello yogesh_mohan,

thank you for the help. ive downloaded both, the first (superantispyware) detected over 100 threats, and siad i had removed them, but when i started another scan in the first minuted it detected 5 again so i cancelled it and started the second application. The second (Malwarebytes) detected about 25 threats and said it could not remove all. I ran the scan again and it says 1 objectd detected which is a big improvment from before. Its tojan.vundo and its in registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\...

Any suggestions in what i should try?

Thanks loads

Hi Jagatwal,

Good to know that both programs are able to detect and remove some of the infections from your computer. Can you try to run the scan from both SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes AntiMalware in Safe mode?

Reboot your computer and while restarting, tap F8 key until the Windows Advance Options Menu is displayed. Then use arrow key to select Safe mode and press Enter.

PS: Run update from both programs before going into Safe mode. Also, backup the whole registry.

Hi yogesh_mohan,

That is what i had done, sorry i wasnt more pacific. I had run the updates after i installed the software. I then restarted in safe mode and scanned the pc with both softwares. After both the scans i was advised to restart which i did. The second time i scanned the pc using SuperAntiSpyware, (which this time was not in safe mode) it detected only 6 infections which were all in the registry (3 of which were a vundo variant), but cannot remove.

How would i remove the rest of the infections? Also how would i back up my registry?

Thank you

Hi,

 I suggest you to run the Trojan.Vundo Removal Tool to remove this. This tool is from the Symantec Security Response team.

Trojan.Vundo Removal Tool

This will help you in removing this Trojan.

Vineeth--

Download Hijackthis http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download. You need download the third in the list (Excutable), install it and click "Do a system scan and save a log". Then open the log in Notepad. Either post the log or send it as a private message.

In meantime, you can also try CCleaner utility to cleanup the registry.

For backing up registry, refer to this Symantec Support Article.

Hi

If you use regedit to delete the reg keys when you find the ones you are looking for, you can right click the entry and "export" this saves the key in a .reg file for backup, that is clickable to place the entry back if need be.

If you get CCleaner not being able to remove them ot you manually getting something like "access denied" it could be that the registry key has been locked / you do not have permission to remove the key.

To change this right click the entry and go down to "permissions" and change to "full control"

Quads

Hey all,

Thanks for the help again. I have already run the norton vundo and vundo.b removal tools. They did not find anything. Ive downloaded the HiJackThis and i''l paste the log below. I'm gonna try CCleaner now.

Jagatwal,

Thanks once again. Are you able to fix the entries for "Adware.Vundo Variant" using SuperAntiSpyware?

Check only the following entry in Hijackthis Scan and click Fix:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3536afd1-40fa-4ba1-8ca3-416089d2e4b9} - (no file)

After that update the SuperAntiSpyware and run a scan in Safe mode. Do the same using MalwareBytes program also. Then restart back to normal mode and post back the results.

Yogesh

Vundo is a trojan that shows irritating pop-up advertisements and secretly downloads harmful files onto your PC. Because Vundo can run lots of advertisements, Vundo can severely decrease your system memory and slow down your computer. Vundo spreads through emails with links to insecure websites that exploit security holes of Internet Explorer. Once you click on a link in a Vundo-laced email, Internet Explorer launches a site that secretly installs the trojan into your computer. Vundo can run every time you startup Windows.

Try this VundoFix tool also.

1. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

2. Double-click VundoFix.exe and then click Scan for Vundo.

3. Once the scan is complete, right-click inside the listbox (white box) and click Add more files

4. Copy & paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes:

  • c:\windows\registration\aceula.dll
  • c:\windows\registration\alueca.*

5. Click Add Files and click Close Window.

6. Click Remove Vundo.

7. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.

8. Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.

9. When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

Hi yogesh_mohan,

I have now tried the new vundo tool. When add files onto the white screen the first

c:\windows\registration\aceula.dll

went in fine, but the second,

c:\windows\registration\alueca.*

wouldn't, it would only go in when i deleted ".*". I choose fix vundo and the desktop went blank. I have just scanned my pc again with SuperAntiSpyware and it stille detects the same (i'll list those in a second).

Also i've scanned my pc in safemode with both of the softwares. They list the following infections:

Using SuperAntiSpyware:
-Adware.Vundo Variant [3 items]
-- Registry keys
HKCR\CLSID\{63397320-E2E5-2180-D571-01E9F87169CF}
HKCR\CLSID\{63397320-E2E5-2180-D571-01E9F87169CF}\InprocServer32
-->?HKCR\CLSID\{63397320-E2E5-2180-D571-01E9F87169CF}\InprocServer32#ThreadingModel

-Unclassified.Unknown Origin [3 items]
-- Registry Keys
HKCR\CLSID\{6D794CB4-C7CD-4C6F-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C}
HKCR\CLSID\{6D794CB4-C7CD-4C6F-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C}\InprocServer32
-->?HKCR\CLSID\{6D794CB4-C7CD-4C6F-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C}\InprocServer32#ThreadingModel

Using Malwarebytes:
--Trojan.Vundo
--Registry Key
HKCR_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6D794CB4-C7CD-4C6F-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C}

Unfortunately both the softwares could not remove the infections, although after i clicked remove they said i needed to restart for the change to take affect (which i did) but the after scans still show the same infections.

The following is the log from HiJack after i clicked fix to "02 -BHO: (no name) - {35.......b9} - (no file)".

sorry but i forgot to mention that when i'm disconnected to the internet and run the first scan with the SuperAntiSpyware it detects the following

-Adware.Vundo Variant [3 items]
-- Registry keys
HKCR\CLSID\{63397320-E2E5-2180-D571-01E9F87169CF}
HKCR\CLSID\{63397320-E2E5-2180-D571-01E9F87169CF}\InprocServer32
-->HKCR\CLSID\{63397320-E2E5-2180-D571-01E9F87169CF}\InprocServer32#ThreadingModel

-Unclassified.Unknown Origin [3 items]

-->HKCR\CLSID\{6D794CB4-C7CD-4C6F-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C}\InprocServer32#ThreadingModel

but then after i scan again, the file where i have put --> are not detected unless i scan once connected to net.

Any results from using CCleaner?

Can you try Trial version of Webroot Spysweeper also? You can check this LINK for Trialware. Uninstall SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes before installing Spysweeper(to avoid conflicts). I have seen posts in various forums that Spysweeper is efficient againt Vundo.

hi,

i used ccleaner, which cleaned the files in my registry but the viruses still appeared with the scan with the other softwares.

At the mo i'm struggling to find free trialware, for the spysweeprer. The one i downloaded scanned my pc but requires me to pay before it quaranteens the infected files. It located two infected files.

thanks

jag

hello yogesh_mohan,

I've now acquired webroot spysweeper. I've run it, and it tried to get rid of the viruses but it says removed but after another scan the virus is still there. It only detects a virtumonde in
