I have had Norton Online Backup installed on my laptop for over one year. Suddenly, the NOBU icon is no longer visible, the program can't be found on my laptop, and when I log into my NOBU account through the NOBU web address, my laptop is not recognized as being online.

Do you have any of the shortcuts under your Programs list or the desktop shortcut? We can also check to see if the Windows service is still installed. It'd be listed under Norton Online Backup. Directions on how to access the services control panel applet can be found here if you're using Windows 7. Let us know if you're using a different version.
It does sound like its simply not running or another process may have removed it.
Have you tried reinstalling the application over itself? Since you know that you didn't uninstall the software it still exists on your PC, and the profile is still showing on your account. With this being the case usually refreshing the installation will correct the issue. Login to your account online and click "Add a computer", then download the software and install it over your current installation. This will keep your current profile active. If however you click remove to remove your profile it will remove your current backups, and uninstall the software. Then you can click the option to "Add a computer" and do a fresh installation. In either case this should correct your issue.
