Norton online backup question

Hi, I signed up for the Norton online backup and it was fine for a couple weeks but now it keeps popping up tons of messages saying insufficient space.  Does it use new space every time it backs up or does only back up new stuff every day? Because at first there was enough room and now there is not and I did not get anything new on my computer so it seems to be using new space everytime it backs up instead of just backing up new stuff  - I hope that makes sense.  Is there a way to fix this?  For example, if it backs up my pictures one time, it shouldn't create a new file every day for the same pictures - it should just check for new stuff and then add that to what it already saved yesterday.  Today it is really being annoying.  Every couple minutes it keeps popping up about 10 messages saying insufficient space.  Please help.  Thank you so much :)

I am having exactly the same problem.  Norton Online Backup says that between the five computers I have setup for backup activites, I should need a total of about 10GB of space or less.  However, I am getting spammed by NOBU the sames way as prettybird138.  I even "deleted" all of my computers from NUBU, but my onlien account STILL says that I've used almost all of my space.

Without some solution, I'm just going to uninstall this product and move on.

I just changed my settings to only backup manually and I still keep getting spammed with tons of the insufficient space pop-ups.  Please help  ( it finally stopped the pop-ups after about 1/2 hour but it's still not doing the backup properly)

How do you get rid of the Norton Backup on  the desktop?  I don't want the backup because I was afraid somehting would be wrong as indicated.  Is the only choice to go to Kaspersky for help?

Norton Online Backup will run a full backup the first time it runs. Subsequent backups send new and incremental changes going forward. Based on your category selection it can cover quite a range of files. To ensure it grabs data in all the common locations it scours all the user profiles on your computer. It's likely discovering content in the other profiles it did not get prior or there really has been that many new additions.

Also note the total you see under the Computer, on the main screen, is the value of how big that set would be if you were to restore it. It doesn't factor in the storage used for the various incremental sets plus that baseline backup. The grand total in the upper right is the accurate total of space used.

Have you taken a look at the Restore Files view to see what precisely has been backed up? It will be a good indicator as to where all the space is going, what items you can exclude going forward and subsequently purge.

Please be careful in using the term spam. It implies that you're getting unsolicited messages. The popups you're getting are valid service notices and are in product.

With all due respect to wwelty, his post is not helpful.  A scan of recent threads shows several references to this problem including one post from me.  We use NOBU to back up files from two family laptops.  The first occurance of the out of space notifications occured with my partner's laptop whilst we were away from home nearly two weeks ago.  Thinking that files/folders may have been duplicated on her computer, I decided to wait until we returned home to see what happened when I turned my computer on again.

At the first backup attempt, the notifications also started to appear.  It was also clear that NOBU was trying to back up all of my files all over again, not just those that were new or had been amended.  Remember that the computer had not been used whilst we were away and was set to daily backup so would have been up to date anyway.  My conclusion from this is that NOBU is not recognising any flag it has set on files already backed up and is therefore trying to back them up twice.  At least, without knowledge of the inner workings of the program, this is what appears to be happening.

I have to say that, so far, Norton do not seem to be treating this problem with any urgency.  It may be that relatively few users are affected but there should be some common factor covering the affected users and I would hope that Norton will pay urgent attention to this.

(Windows 7 and mainly using Firefox 9.0.1 with occasional use of IEP9)

In my case, I did not add anything new to my laptop from when I first backed it up and at first there was a lot of room left over and each time it did the backup, there was less and less room until it was full even though nothing new had been added.  So it's obviously not working right and uses up new space to back up the same stuff over and over, rather than just backing up new items.  If this is the case, this will not work for me because it will always keep running out of room even if I don't add anything new.  And it still has the pop ups telling me it's run out of space even though I've set it to only backup manually.  Can this be fixed at all or should I just cancel it?  Thanks

I dont get tons of messages, but every day a message pops up saying my Norton Online Backup subscription expired.  It is an old subscription and I have already paid for a new one.  I have called Norton so many times and was on hold with a case manager for over three hours.  I have scheduled about 5 call backs and no one has ever called me.  I finally got angry and got someone to get a case manager, but he didnt fix the problem.  It still comes up every day. No one can fix this.

You probably need to buy more space. You have too much stuff to backup.  You only paid for 25GB.

Yes ! Probably you must buy more storage.
