Norton Online Family not locking kids accounts

Dear,

The kids can get around the time restrictions once their time is used up by

1. locking the windows account

2. immediately logging in again.

Sometimes they get only 60 seconds, sometimes longer.

But the problem is they can keep on doing this as long as they want.

I could find in one of the logs that this should only be possible 3 times, but that counter doesn't seem to work.

Is there a way to set the time restrictions so they are effectively blocked from using the computer once their time is used up ?

Thanks,

Jurgen

I see that Norton Online Family is not locking my kids accounts when the time limit is reached.

It DOES block unwanted websites.

It DOES mail a warning that the limit has been reached and pops up a warning message on the screen.

But the actual lock does NOT happen.

Reinstalling the Safety Minder didn't help.

Windows 7 x64 bit, latest Safety Minder available.

Hi,

I just posted the same problem.  My child can repeat the above login process after time expires indeffinately.  If it locks after the 3rd attempt (6 minutes) as you describe, that would be acceptable, but right now it just cycles indefinately.  If you fix this, the program will work perfectly for my needs. Otherwise, I'm looking at competing products. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Katie,

This is indeed reproduceable, what would you like to learn from a remote session ?

Is there a solution to this?  I have this issue as well.  Even though my son has a two hour time limit, he can spend 8 hours on the machine!

Hi cmc15068 and jde,

What I’ve heard is some children login again & again (after the exact 6 minutes) using the few seconds right before the program logs them out.  One thing you can try is to add a password for the child’s Windows account, so when the child logs back onto the PC diligently each time, it would create more work for the child to do it every few seconds.

jde,

If above is not the case for you, I'll be glad to setup a remote session with you to see what exactly the program acts when the time limitation is reached.  Please send me a private message in the forum for details.

Thanks,

Katie

Why can't it just be made to shut down for that child after the warnings?  If you keep giving them 60 seconds, the children who really want to will just continue to milk the system.  Obviously, this is a problem that many folks are having--I don't see how you doing a remote session with each family will help.  If you meet with one of these posters and figure out a way to entirely lock the system for a given child, please post it here so we can all benefit.  This service is not doing what we are paying for and it has been this way since your "updates" in November!
