Could we Please have a way of monitoring network bandwidth usage.
My kids just ate our 100GB broadband allocation by watching and re-watching youtube videos.
Your product does nothing to prevent such activities, and I have had to block all online video sites as a stopgap.
Hi Katie,
Thanks for your reply.
No site is blocked, whatever I do. It never occured once that a site was blocked.
I have selected all webcategories to be blocked and also added a specific site to the be blocked. No sites are on the white list.
Although it is not the intention that all sites have to be blocked, it is just a test to see if it is working.
However, no result. It is still possible to access all sites, even the ones on the black list.
And via the NOF these sites are not listed in the monitoring list.
A last thing to mention is that in IE8.0 I have checked that the NSM add-on is active.
Thanks,
PieDie
Hi Katie,
Indeed, when I log in I use the account of my child. I startup IE and open a few sites.
Then I login into NOF and at my Child avatar I see a small green dot with something like an antenna. I assume it indicates that indeed my child is online.
The logs at Activity -> Web only shows the onlinefamily.norton.com and the account.norton.com sites that I visited. It does not show this community.norton.com site and other sites that I visited.
McAfee is unistaleld and I do not have any other security products installed. I know it is dangerous, but I take the risk in trying to get this up and running.
Thanks,
PieDie
Thanks for the update.
Katie
Once I read about Norton Online Family, I was enthusiastic and immediately installed Norton Safety Minder on the PC.
However, I tried a lot of things during the last but it doesn’t work.
The installation of the program went smoothly. My children all have their own account provided with a password. They have limited access.
When accessing the account of my children I get a pop up that this account is protected by NSM. However it doesn’t work. It is still possible to access adult sites and it is not monitored by Norton Online Family. Only when accessing sites of Norton it is monitored, all other sites not. It could be that only secured sites are monitored.
My internet browser is firefox 7.0.1. Once I read that this could be the problem I installed internet explorer 8.0. But this didn’t help.
I have several times uninstalled NSM and installed it again, but still the same result.
To protect my PC I had McAfee Virusscan plus. As this could maybe the problem I uninstalled it and don’t have any protection now, just to check if this was the problem. However no success.
I have no idea on how to continue.
As the NSM really looks like the program I could use to keep an eye on my children, I still want to give it another try before I give up.
Some info: Operating system:
Windows XP SP2
Internet browser: Firefox 7.0.1 , later replaced by internet explorer 8.0
All children’s account have limited access
Norton Safety Minder version: 2.2.0.34
No other Symantec program installed
Other antivirus / protection program: McAfee, currently uninstalled
I have had recent issues in the past as it pertains to Norton Online Family. I had issues unistalling it and had to use a third party unistaller program in order to get it off my PC. A system restore didn't work.
My issue is logging in from the User Interface and receiveing a message of "Invalid SSL Certificate" Try Again.
I have the following -
Windows 7 64 Bit
FireFox 16.02
Comcast NSS 20.2.0.19
I have not re-installed Norton Online Family which I understand is separate form Norton Security products.
I am seeking any possible assistance as I am considering re-installing it. Any advice or assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi angelika7867,
When you see the Browser Plug In Disabled message next time, please check the browser that your child uses to see if the Norton Family Extension is enabled. You can find it by clicking Tools -> Manage Add-ons in IE if IE is being used.
As for facebook.com, do you know how the child visits the website, as http://www.facebook.com or https://www.facebook.com?
Thanks,
Katie
