I'm running Norton Internet Security 2013 on Vista SP2 64-bit.
I downloaded the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool (NBRT) Wizard v5.1 from the Norton website (as directed by selecting the "Norton Recovery Tools" URL shortcut installed in my Windows Start menu in the Norton Internet Security folder).
I boot from the NBRT USB drive and get to the main menu. I'm presented with two choices. The first kind of scan is the Power Eraser scan, the second one is the usual NBRT recovery scan. The NBRT recovery scan works fine, it even downloads the latest virus definitions, I can see my router lights flashing and it updates successfully, so I know my internet connection works fine within the NBRT environment.
The problem I have is the first scan (the Power Eraser one). When I click it, it quickly pops up something I can't see and then nothing happens. Clicking it again does nothing.
Any help would be appreciated. I don't have a malware issue, I was just testing this new version of the NBRT so I'm familiar in case I ever need it in the future.
I also had the same problem using Norton Internet Security 2012 and Norton Bootable Recovery Tool v4.1 last year.
Hi Xantheous,
Can you launch the command prompt and check if NPE.exe is downloaded in the X: directory? And, also try pinging liveupdate.symantec.com.
