Norton Power Eraser - Restoring files

I downloaded and used Norton Power Eraser due to a sudden decrease in latency and fps when playing games. It found something called FindFast.exe  The details of this said it belongs to Office97 (I still use Office97). After removing this file I restarted my computer to find that my task bar had vanished. The windows icon that access' my start menu is still there, floating it seems. Obviously my computer needs this for whatever reason but I can't find the restore point that the Power Eraser had created before I removed it. Everything else seems be in working order...(Other then the fact that I cant see the time and have to use the tab key to gain access to whatever im doing >.<) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Crayer

When you open NPE you will see: Review Past Repair Sessions And Undo Them.

Click the Review button and undo the repair session.

Welcome,

Do you have the installation disk for your Office97? You might be able to do a 'repair' of the suite and reinstall your missing program. The Norton Power Eraser is akin to using a baseball bat to kill flys. Very effective but it can break things. There are some less agressive utilities that are compatible with your Norton product that may serve you better in the future.

It is also possible that the program you need is hiding in one of the .CAB files that should be in one of the dustier corners of your hard drive. [it would be called fastfind.ex_ there]

Hope this helps

It isn't on my computer anymore, it disappeared after it instructed me to retaart my computer. Do I have to download it again? And BTW I restarted it right after I wrote my first message and my taskbar was back...I walked upstairs for about 20mins and when I came back it had disappeared again. Thought that would be something you should know.

Thanks

I do have the disk but when I originally put it on this comp it messed with some .dll files and I had to go through hell to get it working properly.

It sounds like you just ran NPE.exe from the browser instead of saving it somewhere then running it.  Instead of looking for it you can just download NPE again and it will detect the previous runs and you should be able to UNDO them as instructed by previously replies.

Let us know the results.
