I'm running Norton Internet Security 2012 on Vista SP2 64-bit.
I downloaded the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool (NBRT) Wizard v4.1.0.15 from http://security.symantec.com/nbrt/nbrt.aspx?
I installed it and used it to create a recovery media on a USB thumbdrive.
I boot from the NBRT USB drive and get to the main menu. I'm presented with two choices. The first kind of scan is the Power Eraser scan, the second one is the usual NBRT recovery scan. The NBRT recovery scan works fine, it even downloads the latest virus definitions, I can see my router lights flashing and it updates successfully, so I know my internet connection works fine within the NBRT environment.
The problem I have is the first scan (the Power Eraser one). When I click it, it pops up a small window that says "Downloading Power Eraser", but the progress bar doesn't move, and within 3-4 seconds, the window closes and nothing happens. Clicking it again causes the "downloading" window to appear and disappear. It just won't download it. I thought maybe Norton's servers were down, but I tried it on different days over two weeks and I have the same problem. I tried recreating the NBRT USB drive and same problem.
Any help would be appreciated. I don't have a malware issue, I was just testing this new version of the NBRT so I'm familiar in case I ever need it in the future.
