Norton prevents internet sharing

I have NSBU installed on my computer running windows 10. When I try sharing my internet connection by going to setting -> network and and internet -> mobile hotspot, my phone can connect to the shared connection but cannot access the internet. So I tried turning off Smart Firewall and my phone can access the internet. And every time I share my connection, I have to turn off Smart Firewall. So are there any ways that I can share my connection with Smart Firewall turned on?

twelve step solution :

1. bottom left corner of laptop screen click on Network icon
2. click on "mobile hotspot" to turn it on
3. right click "mobile hotspot" button and "go to settings" to get or reset the password
4. on iPhone choose the hotspot as your wifi connection

5. you can try and get a webpage but you may not get it !!
6. the device IP and MAC address should appear in the "Mobile hotspot" settings on the PC
7. copy the MAC address
8. Go to Nortons "Settings", "Firewall"
9. click on "Configure" for the "Device Trust"
10. "Add" the MAC address and give "Full Trust"
11. dont forget to "Apply" when saving
12. test browser on the iPhone

Murahari's post above says to change the network from Public to Private. Not changing Smart Firewall settings.

Allowing the default blocked traffic for Public Networks reduces your protection if you happen to use a laptop at a mobile hotspot.

How to change Network from Public to Private.

If anyone still having problems with this i was having the same issue. I was trying to connect my xbox through my laptop hotspot which connects through vpn. the solution was, for my case:

Go to Settings>>Firewall>>Traffic Rules>>ALLOW Default Block Inbound Windows Services(Public Networks) which is blocked by default.

Same problem here.  I have a laptop hard-wired to my PC, which connects via wi-fi to my router.  The PC is running Win 10 with ICS and Norton Security v. 22.8.1.14.  Laptop only connects to Internet when Smart Firewall is disabled.  SF Trust level is Private and resetting SF does nothing.

I assume there's some sort of exclusion that needs to be set somewhere, but I can't find it ...

Thanks for any assistance ...

Hi,

I've tried all the trust levels, doesn't help. I was set to 'Full Trust'

The hotspot doesn't work until 'Smart Firewall' is disabled. This instantly fixes the problem.

I've noticed that the hotspot sometimes continues to work once the 'Smart firewall' is re-enabled.

I've tried this on a second PC running Norton and this has the same issue. On a third PC that uses Windows firewall instead of Norton the Hotspot works perfectly.

Thanks

Marcus

Hello,

I assume you have network trust level set to "Public". You can verify it through Settings->Firewall->Network Trust->Configure,

If it is 'Public', change it to 'Private' and let us know the result.

Thanks,

Same problem here. Wifi hotspot created with a Windows 10 PC works fine when 'Smart Firewall' is disabled but internet is blocked when 'Smart Firewall' is on.

Resetting the firewall didn't help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can you not just connect to your router using Wifi from your phone? Or do you not have a Wifi router and just use a Wifi on the PC?

Try resetting your firewall. From the main NSBU screen, click on Settings - Firewall - General Settings tab. Click on Reset beside Firewall Reset. Restart your computer and try to access the internet from your phone again.
