Norton product message - while in Metro UI (Win8/8.1)

At the time I assumed it was something that Norton was testing with the betas, but that time has now passed.

And this is why I asked, and am currently waiting for the OP's reply on, if they did do a fully clean install and/or if a settings migration tool was used after the installation.  My thinking is that somehow there may still be some "beta traits" left behind that are causing the popups to persist.

Kind regards,

John

John,

When you say beta, are you referring to the OS or NIS?

Sandro

Actually both because at that time Norton's as well as Microsoft's product(s) were each still in beta or product preview.

Kind regards,

John

Thank you for your suggestion, John

Based on the fact that I never used and never installed any beta version of Windows 8/8.1 and NIS, this should mean that the problem isn't due to this.
In my case, the problem occurred even when I did a clean install of Windows 8 starting setup from the DVD that I bought at the time, and even NIS was not a beta version.
Personally, I believe that the problem could be related to a malfunction of the Windows 8 Store and Norton products that are present on it.

Maybe one day we will know something more about this, or maybe not.

And that was fully clean install - not an in-place (over the top) install?

Another thought - Did you happen to use the Easy Transfer Tool to migrate your User Settings / Files / Personalizations, etc.  from the test configuration?  I've had to deal with some less than desired results caused by the use of that tool from time to time.

Kind regards,

John

Yes, it is a totally clean installation: I removed the Win8.1 beta partition then created and formatted a new one for the RTM version.

No, I didn't transfer anything from the beta OS, I have reinstalled everything and saved my data to an external hard drive before deleting the partition. Actually I have never used the Easy Transfer Tool.

Sorry, but I'm out of suggestions...

My assumption was based on my own experience with the issue.  Since neither of you did upgrade installations of either product or did settings migrations afterward then the issue must be from some other cause - As Sandro suggests, maybe it's something to do with the App Store...(or perhaps MS Settings Sync, if you're using an MS cloud logon.)  I have the Norton Studio, Norton Satellite, and Norton Zone Metro Apps installed.

I do not get the Norton Notice popups on Win8.1 RTM, and I never got them on Win8.0 RTM (with the same Norton products & Apps selections I'm presently running).  The only time that I did get the Notices was during the time I had the Win8.1 Betas and the Win8.1 Preview installed in conjunction with the NISv21 Betas.

I wish you the best of luck in resolving,

John

No problem, thanks for trying. (BTW I don't use the Symantec metro-based apps like Norton Studio, so it must be NIS/N360 itself.)

But I would be glad if someone from Symantec could take a look into this issue as I am constantly having it - every 4-6 days.

FWIW, I recently had need to temporarily switch my Win 8 login from my normal Microsoft cloud account to a local login account and I quickly noticed that the Norton notification popups had started appearing again.  I've since switched back to a MS account and the popups have stopped.

Kind regards,

John

Hi John,

I thought it was very interesting what you said.
I tried to reproduce the Norton notification pop-ups switching from my MS account to a local login account but nothing changed,

the popup never appears in both circumstances.

Weird thing   :smileyfrustrated:

Yes, this seems to be the cause of the pop-up notifications. I don't use MS's cloud account and I use the local account on Win8/8.1 If I need to download apps from the Store, I log into that app separately with an outlook account then I sign out. But I have never used the full cloud option.
