After a year and half of Norton's crashes, failures, damage to my operating system, I can report the Norton program removal tool worked and I am Norton free. Going to buy McAffee. Only 100 characters, so I can't go into the details.

You musn't have tried NIS 2009 .........It's way better than your favourite......Mcafee (shouldn't be anyone's
favourite after using NIS 09 ,I suppose !!!) as it hasen't been released one and half years back !!!
By the way spelling of Mcafee is 'Mcafee' and not 'McAffee' 
!!!
Stay prepared for distasters with Mcafee............I have gone through them......while Norton is giving you
only crashes !!!
I would prefer crashes rather than disasters
