Norton proxy server setting not working to run live update

My norton version is 18.1.037 and when I used proxy server, the product worked. However, when I changed setting backed to 'no proxy server', the Live update could not connect to Internet.

Likely there is a bug. Can anyone shred some light on this issue?

Thx,

Bill

Have you rebooted since the change?  Are the settings changed to detect settings automatically?  Are you connected wirelessly or by wired connection?

Hi Bill,

Welcome to the Norton Community!

One thing: Do you really have a Proxy server or was it that Norton detected you were using a Proxy server?

Cheers!

I tried both ways--using automatically detect and not using automatical detect, Live update still didn't work; in addition, this computer has been restart many times in 9 days. I use wirless connection.

I have a proxy server and have options to use it or not to use it. Currently my proxy server is in maintanance, so I bypasee my server and connect to Internet directly.

Regards,

Bill

If you right click on the network accessw icon, are there any options for available networks?  If you have Win 7, can you find it in Manage Wireless Networks.  If so, you should be able to choose it.

Hi,

Even i am facing the same issue.

- norton product automatically detected the proxy settings since the product was installed when there was a proxy connection available

- unchecked all check boxes in the proxy settings

- using wireless connection

Followed the below steps, nothing worked out.

- Reset Firewall from Advanced Options

- Rebooted

- Reviewed all proxy entries in browsers

- Rebooted several times

I am able to successfully browse internet through IE, FF but only this live update thing does not work for me.

don't want to uninstall and reinstall the product - any other solution pls help

using - NIS 18.0, Vista Home premium SP2 Toshiba Laptop

Please read my posts, I was able to solve the issue.  And yes you are right, there is a bug !

Thanks dallas_maverick,

I folloewed the steps in your post, swithed ProxyEnable from "0" to "1" and "1" to "0" for several times, my problem was still there, not resolved.

Do you have an other solution, or do you know how to report this bug to Norton?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi,

When LiveUpdate fails, you can see a More Info link in the Norton LiveUpdate window. Please click More Info. This opens the One Click Support and you can see an error code there. Let us know the error code that you receive.

If you do not see a More Info link, then click View Summary at the bottom of your Norton LiveUpdate window. Then under the failed update, click Tech Support. This opens the One Click Support and you can see an error code there. Let us know the error code that you receive.
