First, you do realize that part of the NIS 2011 Beta requires you to have an image backup of the system before installing the Beta and then restore your system to the pre-BETA state before installing a released version, correct?
Uninstalling may not remove all the components and it is possible that the removal tool may not properly handle removal of the BETA version either.
This does not sound like it is related to the "corrupt" removal tool though. What error message exactly is being reported? Is it when you try to run it?
Also have you run chkdsk /r on the disk in question to make sure the hard drive itself is good with no bad sectors, etc?
You mentioned something about the recent faulty upgrade which I assume by that you mean 18.5, correct? NIS 2011 BETA would not have downloaded this faulty patch so that would not be an issue.
Fistly, Thank you for such a speedy response to my post.
Regarding not using an image back up of my files, you are quite correct; I should have done so. I had intended to re-format this partition as it did not contain any important files. Would this have sufficed?
What actually happened was that, in response to my E Mail to Symantec, asking why I was restricted from downloading Norton 360 V 5 Beta, they told me I am not in an area that is restricted, and so they advised me to retry downloading, after ensuring that all Cookies are enabled. Unfortunately this did not rectify the problem.
This met with the same restricted notice, so I decided to try using a new installation of Win XP on another partition to see if this would resolve the issue. I have three hard disks on the computer and many patitions. Unfortunately, I saw a blue screen during the installation process and then turned to another partition, which already contained Win XP and the NIS 2011 Beta. I had not accessed this partition for some months.
I deleted the Beta using "add or Remove Programs" and thought I was being thorough by trying to use the Removal tool, and this is when I saw the message, on attempting to run the Norton removal Tool program, that the program was corrupt. Is this because I was trying to use it with the Beta?
Yes, I often check the Hard Disks and have not seen any errors reported, and again yes, I was referring to the update 18.5.
Thank you, Allen, for the answers which you have already given me in your reply to my questions and thank you in advance for any further information that you are able to provide.

>> Yes absolutely this would suffice.

>> Not sure what to say on this one.

>> This seems unlikely. What is the exact error message you got? Can you post a screen shot of the error message when you try to run the removal tool? I assume you did try to download the removal tool again in case you just had a corrupted download, correct?

Yes, I attempted to download the Removal tool several times, with the same result. That is, on trying to run it I was told "Corrupted File" in a square box, without an error number.
I am unable to reproduce this because I tried to reinstall XP on this partition and that produced the blue screen error, and that partition is now unusable without reformatting it.
