I am greatly disappointed at the manner in which Symantec functions. A few days ago their subscription renewal agency sent me a mail saying they would automatically renew my subscription to which I told them I am no longer interested in Norton and want to stop using the product at the end of its life-cycle.
Today I was surprised to note that Norton had automatically renewd my account without even bothering to reply to me. This discourtesy as well as lack of professional ethics on the part of Symantec is extremely disturbing. While I am deciding the manner in which I can take the issue further in consumer courts both in my country as well as at the Federal level in the USA for what I treat as violation of my financial privacy as well as my consumer rights, I would like to inform all members on the forum that I am greatly disappointed with Norton's behaviour . I have already sent a letter to the subscription renewal agency to that effect.
WHYI DECIDED TO STOP USING NORTON
I have been using Norton for years till Norton 10 started deleting all the software that I compiled. As a developer this is disastrous, since the software I produce is deleted both on my machine as well as on a cleint's only because it is little known. To add insult to injury the deletion notice tells me that "You chose to delete xxx" When contacted NORTON informed me that a patch was being set up for the issue, but nothing has happened. This is why I deided to move away from Norton and use another package. By forcing me to renew the subscription when the company was expressly told not to is a serious action termed as ultra vires.
I hope someone in Norton responds to this mail, since I feel that any mail to Norton just disappears in a black hole.
