For the past few days when I launch Chrome on my Windows 7 desktop I get a message saying "The newest version of the extension “Norton Safe Search as default for Chrome” requires more permissions so it has been disabled.
It can now:
- Read and change your data on identitysafe.norton.com
- Change your search settings to nortonsafe.search.ask.com"
and there is a Re-enable button. I haven’t pressed that as this sounds just like something malware would do to get around Safe Search.
The window does have the Norton logo in the upper left but I’m sure that’s easy enough to fake.
Is this a legitimate Norton message? Should I select Re-enable for what sounds like dangerous abilities?
And if not, should I just select the “Remove from Chrome” button or do I need to do more?
