 Sorry, I did not notice the beta forums. I will go there.

Hi Today I initiated registration for my website FinRepInc.com on Safe Web. I published the test file to my web root. I received the donotreply email, and the step 1 verification link opens the file, but when I follow the step 2 link I am getting an alert: "Site verification failed. Please copy the auth file to the root directory of your web site." If the 1st link opens the test file it seems like something may be going wrong with the verification process. Please help! Thanks.

It worked. Silly me!

Thank you very much!

Glad it worked, FinREP1 :-)

Hello david and welcome.

I have checked your source code and your meta tag is not quite properly formatted. That is why you cannot verify ownership and also why it is showing on your page.

I shall do my best to keep this simple as per your request. When you view your source code, you should turn off Word Wrapping to see the actual structure of your code.

Currently, your meta tag looks like this:

<meta name="norton-safeweb-site-verification" />
content="9o138hyql9....(abbreviated for clarity)....6mtxog4g0k3"
&gt; /&gt;

Note that there are two line breaks and the tag is not "closed" properly. Corrections to be made are in red text.

See if you can edit the tag so that it is on one continuous line and looks like this:

<meta name="norton-safeweb-site-verification" content="9o138hyql9....(abbreviated for clarity)....6mtxog4g0k3"/>

Once that is done, you should not see the code on your page and you should be able to verify site ownership.

Let me know how you do with this. If you encounter any problems, we can try an alternate method.

Thank you Phil

We have altered it as you have suggested but for some reason  a space keeps appearing between the " and the /> at the end of the content line, even through we remove it. when we save it, it puts it back. we now have  > /> showing on our web page.

Hope that makes sense.

Regards

David

Hi David,

The characters showing on your home page are due to this entry on line 10 of your source code: &gt; /&gt;

Once they are removed, the > /> will be gone.

If you are still unable to verify ownership, I shall notify the Safe Web team who will manually verify site ownership. Allow them a day or two to respond back to you in this thread.

Once ownership has been verified, your site will be queued for the rating evaluation.

Be sure the code remains in place until ownership is verified.

We are trying to gat our website recgnised as a safe site by Norton.Our website is www.boat-cleaner.co.uk. We copied the meta tag into the Index (Home) page on line 4, just after the head section as requested. Unfortuntately the "content" part of the copied "material" is displayed at the top of the Index (Home) page.

We have also tried putting the <meta name="norton-safeweb ,,," on line 4 and the content part on line 5, but still be have the same problem.

Can you help?  I am not a techie so if you could keep it simple  it would be much appreciated

Regards

david

Thank you Phil

I am out of the office just now but will get on to it ASAP and get back to you. I appreciate your help

David

Hi again Phil

Although  &gt; /&gt; was on line 10 looking at it from the online web page, it was on line 20 on our internal page. We removed it and it seems to have resolved the problem.

Do we need to do anything else to get norton to check it out?

Many thanks

David

Nothing else that you need to do at this point.

I have notified the Safe Web team and they should respond back to you in this thread within a day or two.

Thanks Phil

I appreciate your help and will await for the safe web teams response.

David

Hi David,

We tried to verify your site manually, but your auth code is not matching the one in our records.

Can you please request for a new auth code & add it again to your website so that we will be able to verify.

Rajesh

Thanks Rajesh

I will back in the office within the next couple of days and try again

David

Hi Rajesh

Replaced code as instructed.

David

Hi David,

Thanks for adding metatag on your website. I have verified owership your website 'boat-cleaner.co.uk'.

Current rating of your website is green in safeweb.norton.com.

Rajesh

Thank you for your help, it was much appreciated

Hi Phil,

Yes, sorry I should have mentioned that! It does say 'ownership verified' so there's obviously no issue there. That's why I am at a loss given I've been waiting for over 2 months now.

It may be this is a normal time to wait and I was lucky last time. What do you think?

Thanks,

Matt

Okay, I just wanted to confirm that.

The normal "turn-around" time is about 10 days or less.

I will notify the Safe Web team and have them look into it for you. Please allow them a day or two to respond back to you in this thread.

While waiting on their response, could you check that the spelling of the site address matches letter for letter what you submitted to Safe Web?
