Norton safety is download on child's computer but gets around security by signing on as guest

How can I monitor my child on his computer which has Norton safety minder downloaded on it from by passing the minder/controls by signing on as a guest on his computer?

Hi

You did not specify which operating system you are using and so I assumed Windows XP?  If not there are probably instructions for Vista/Windows 7 on the Microsoft site as well.

I am guessing that you are referring to the guest account in Windows that lets you sign in without a password?  Unless there is a specific reason that it is enabled why not just disable it?  Instructions for Windows XP can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ua_provide_guest_account_w.mspx?mfr=true.

If you let him log in under an administrator account he can probably just re-enabled the guest account and so you will probably have to make him use an non-administrator account on his machine which can be a pain.

Safety Minder also has the option to assign user accounts to children.  Right click on the Norton Safety Minder icon and then choose edit accounts.  You might be able to tell Safety Minder that he logs on as Guest as well as his other computer user account.  I haven't tried it myself so I am not 100% sure if it will show the Guest account in the list.

What you should first do, is to make your child's user account to be a limited/standard account, and not to be a power user/administrator. Unless Safety Minder can be bypassed.
