For the past 3 months, I've been getting a message saying that Norton Online Family (or Safety Minder - not sure) needs to reboot to apply an update. Having rebooted, the message still comes up. Yesterday I realized that Online Family has not been working on my computer. I believe my kids have been unprotected for 3 months.
I re-installed Online Family / Safety Minder and I no longer get that message. But now it freezes all browsers when I test access to a restricted site.
The only other security product I have installed is Norton Antivirus. I disabled Browser Protection in Norton Antivirus. This kind of resolved the issue. When testing access to a restricted site, it now shows the little dog page instead (as expected). Problem is a) browsing performance is very slow, and b) Norton Antivirus is saying my system is vulnerable because Browser Protection is disabled.
So for now, I have configured Online Family / Safety Minder to not control access from my kids' accounts. Browsing speed is back to normal and Norton Antivirus says my system is safe - but of course my kids are still unprotected right now.
Is Norton Online Family / Safety Minder compatible with Norton Antivirus? If not, what options do I have?
I have the same problem: Windows 7 + Norton AntiVirus 2012 + Norton Saftety Minder. It worked well for months, but recently it becomes almost impossible to visit any web site (with Firefox, Chrome, IE). Everything goes back into order if I disable the monitoring of the Windows account from the Norton online Family site.
Another hint: the problem started about one week ago (end of September 2012) after a Windows update. I restored Windows to its state before the last Windows update, then everyting was fine. Unfortunately Windows got updated again, then the same problem comes back. It seems that Norton Safety Minder is incompatible with that Windows update.
Now my kid's computer is not protected. HELP please!

I started experiencing this problem this morning with my children's computer. If I disabled Norton Family safe, they're able to get around. It's terrible.
