Norton Safety Minder freeze all the Browsers on Windows 7

I seem to have the same problem as this post: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Online-Family/Norton-Safety-Minder-freeze-all-the-Browsers-on-Windows-7-64bit/td-p/695751

For the past 3 months, I've been getting a message saying that Norton Online Family (or Safety Minder - not sure) needs to reboot to apply an update.  Having rebooted, the message still comes up.  Yesterday I realized that Online Family has not been working on my computer.  I believe my kids have been unprotected for 3 months.

I re-installed Online Family / Safety Minder and I no longer get that message.  But now it freezes all browsers when I test access to a restricted site.

The only other security product I have installed is Norton Antivirus.  I disabled Browser Protection in Norton Antivirus.  This kind of resolved the issue.  When testing access to a restricted site, it now shows the little dog page instead (as expected).  Problem is a) browsing performance is very slow, and b) Norton Antivirus is saying my system is vulnerable because Browser Protection is disabled.

So for now, I have configured Online Family / Safety Minder to not control access from my kids' accounts.  Browsing speed is back to normal and Norton Antivirus says my system is safe - but of course my kids are still unprotected right now.

Is Norton Online Family / Safety Minder compatible with Norton Antivirus?  If not, what options do I have?

I have the same problem: Windows 7 + Norton AntiVirus 2012 + Norton Saftety Minder.  It worked well for months, but recently it becomes almost impossible to visit any web site (with Firefox, Chrome, IE). Everything goes back into order if I disable the monitoring of the Windows account from the Norton online Family site.

Another hint:  the problem started about one week ago (end of September 2012) after a Windows update. I restored Windows to its state before the last Windows update, then everyting was fine.  Unfortunately Windows got updated again, then the same problem comes back. It seems that Norton Safety Minder is incompatible with that Windows update.

Now my kid's computer is not protected. HELP please!

Hi All,

Thank you very much for your continued patience as we continue to work on the issue.  We will post an update as soon as we have more information.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi All,

As reported on the Forums between Friday, September 28th, and Tuesday, October 2nd, some of our Norton Online Family customers experienced slower web browsing. After some research, we found some temporary server-level issues that resulted in this slowdown, which we took immediate steps to correct. We have also increased our server equipment and capabilities, in order to prevent this situation from recurring.  We know that Norton Online Family is an important service for many of our users' families; we apologize to those affected, and appreciate all of your help to troubleshoot the issue.

Thanks,

Katie

It seems to working now (with Browser Protection in Norton Antivirus enabled) and browsing speeds seem to be normal.

Thanks

I started experiencing this problem this morning with my children's computer. If I disabled Norton Family safe, they're able to get around. It's terrible.

The same. I have had to disable Norton Safety Minder on my own computer just to get any work done, including posting this message.

Hi,

Thanks for the posts.  Are you still experiencing the issue?

Thanks,

Katie
