I use Norton Save & Restore 2.0 to back up my laptop data to an external hard drive connected to the USB port. The hard drive is "stationary", i.e I don´t bring it with me when I travel with my laptop. In Windows Vista, I sometimes want to disconnect my external hard drive and bring my laptop without switching it off. If I do that, Windows complains: "can´t disconnect the hard drive - it may be in use." Norton Save & Restore is locking up the hard drive in some way, even if it is not currently transferring any data.
How can I disconnect my external USB drive without switching my laptop off?
I run Windows Vista Business Edition, and in my scheduled back up jobs I have enabled search using Google desktop.
