Recently I did a Norton 360 scan of my registry. The Norton info said this had never been done before. Shortly thereafter I was missing some fonts. Those I especially noticed were Arial Regular, Verdana Regular, and Georgia Regular (all regular). Paid a computer repair guy $50 to reinstall those fonts (he did it remotely from his computer) and check out everything to make sure I had no viruses. None were found.
I asked whether the Norton registry scan could have caused this font loss. He said it could have, but he didn't know. He also recommended downloading and running the free version of Malwarebytes - which I did. No problems were found. That was yesterday. Today I got a message from Norton (first time - always automatic in the past) that there was an important new update for me to download. When I tried to do it, was told it was incompatible with Malwarebytes and that that program must first be uninstalled. Called my computer guy again, and he said to go with what Norton says.
I'm wondering whether anyone else has experienced font loss after running a Norton registry scan.
Any Registry Cleaner can mess up your system so my advice is Don't Use Them. I understand there is a setting in N360 to turn off and scheduled actions like this.
Sorry you had to pay someone to get them back for you since those three are Windows standard fonts and you should be able to get them from Microsoft ... or any PC that is operating OK.
Some Cleaner software has an entry for Fonts and Font Libraries in the Registry cleanup section and if I ever run one I make sure those are not checked.
