Has Norton resolved the need to manually Turn On the Secure VPN (using Windows 10 Home)?
Every time I resume from "Sleep" or "Restart", I have to manually Turn on Norton Secure VPN and sometimes I don't remember to do so and it is my understanding that personal information can be compromised, we need a solution to this problem. Please advise. Thank you!
Hi Rgs1, I appreciate your response and I totally agree with your feelings of inconsistency and being deeply flawed. So I checked out the link you so kindly provided and I'm seriously thinking of going with ExpressVPN, but now I have another question. What do you use for antivirus, back up and all the rest that Norton 360 offers?
In other words, since I will be paying for a separate VPN, I'm thinking I should dump Norton altogether. Your thoughts?
If anyone else would like to offer their thoughts, that too would be welcome! Perhaps together (a thinktank if you will) we can come up with resolutions to help others as well.
I had been meaning to get VPN for a while now and didn't give it a 2nd think about using Norton VPN for 2 reasons.
The Norton name (I have been using their AVS for a while now) and
Their VPN comes bundled with 360 and with a click it was on, just like that (which is great)
And considering that VPN is part of security that I look for, I minimally expect it to work all the time my device is connected to the internet. Look at it this way, do you ever have to turn on/off your AVS? Would you like it if you have to constantly have to fiddle with AVS regardless of post-reboot or post-hibernate? I kind of doubt it. To me VPN is part of this security suite that has to be on *all the time*.
If doesn't then it kind of defeats the purpose of having this software. This inconsistency (I don't believe this is by design, i see this as a deep flaw in the product) has now led me to evaluate if I want to use Norton VPN.
Far as alternatives, I just started to look and found this URL to be helpful
Free is good but the product not working when you expect it to is totally dangerous. This is my line of thinking and for others, their mileage may vary as the cliche goes.
This is like redesigning the body to fit the tail. Norton should fix the product instead of suggesting half baked solutions or not offer this product because this is not production quality
You must still manually turn on the VPN for Windows once it has been turned off.
You can try eliminating sleep and hibernate and just power down your monitor. The VPN does drop off for many reasons but eliminating the resume from sleep reason will be a big plus for you.
Personally, I run my PC 24/7 just powering down the monitor. Been doing that for 20 years and have had no issues including power usage.
