We experienced a problem with Norton Security running on a MacBook Pro today after clicking “Fix” a Security Issue in a Norton Security Pop Up Warning. Aparently Norton Security in its default configuration blocks outbound video from the MacBook’s camera to Apple’s FaceTime App. .
We found that the Mac’s camera will connect to FaceTime after turning ‘OFF’ Vulnerability Protection: -
Norton Security > Advanced Settings > Firewall > Vulnerability Protection - OFF - .
However, this causes Norton Security to display Security Vulnerability Warnings. .
We confirmed several times that either clicking ‘Fix’ Security Issues or turning ‘ON’ Vulnerability Protection kills the connection between the MacBook Pro’s Camera and the outgoing FaceTime Video. (All of the options under ‘Vulnerability Protection’ are set to default and werereset todefault). .
Connections from the Macbook Pro’s Camera to other Apps, like Zoom, continue to work with Vulnerability Protection ‘ON.’ .
Although FaceTime now works properly, this doesn’t solve the problem because Norton Security is displaying security vulnerability warnings in the configuration needed to allow FaceTime to work properly. .
