Could anyone advise me whether Norton Security Deluxe for Mac protect Time Machine backups on an external HDD and also whether any protection is offered against ransomeware? Apparently Bitdefender does.
Thanks

That is true peter. Such as if you copied and pasted an infected file from the external hard drive back to the physical hard drive. But until then if an infected file gets by Norton and then is copied over to the external drive that infected file will remain there. That is why it is a good idea to run a full scan before you backup. Also never leave your external hard drive plugged in. But then again this is a Mac. Mac malware is far and few between. Mac's do not even come with any sort of protections out of the box.
Norton protect your Mac and not the external hard drive
Just a clarification. If malware had somehow gotten onto the external drive, it would be detected and dealt with when your computer tried to access the infected file.
Mac's really do not have to worry. about ransomware. Norton protect your Mac and not the external hard drive. No security will protect an external hard drive. Scan it. Yes if you manually do. This is also the Norton Security area for Window's. Mac;s go here.
