Hi lizard,
Did you delete NSSStub as instructed here?:
Hi lizard,
Did you delete NSSStub as instructed here?:
I did not have NSSStub nor the registry keys that were mentioned in the article.
I believe the first uninstall caused some of these issues. Is there *just* Norton Security Scan install, so I can install cleanly and (hopefully) uninstall cleanly? I don't want all of these security packages installed, as well.
Also, I do have Windows 7 64-bit. I don't know if some of the strange issues I experience are related to my version.
I also just had this piece of cr@p install itself to my computer. I've downloaded nothing today, I've never clicked on any Norton ad nor went to their website. However, I got a nice surprise when I closed my browser to find a big old "Norton Security Scan" box open on my desktop. Not only did it download itself without my knowledge or consent, it also installed itself without my knowledge or consent. And then the cream of the matter is that I couldn't even uninstall it or close the program without first clicking a "next" button button that allowed it to start scanning my system. I'm sure that was just a ruse to back itself up to prevent true deletion. These so called virus protection companies create the viruses themselves just to sell you the removal program. I'm sure their "secirity scan" came with a several viruses. This company should be sued out of existance.
Hi eber3,
If you installed the new Adobe Shockwave Player this week Norton Security Scan may have been bundled with it, and that may be how you came to install the program. It can ride in when a user clicks through the Shockwave installation without noticing to deselect it. It does not download or install itself. I'm not offering an opinion on the method, only suggesting how it may have gotten on your PC.
SendOfJive thanks for your reply.
That is most likly how it came in to my computer then. Yesterday I did have a pop-up from my task bar telling me there was an updated adobe shockwave player available. It had two boxes, one to install, and I believe the other said something about "remind me later". There were no other boxes, clickable options or mention of Norton anything. I did tell it to install. Apparently the program then decided at some point today to install and run itself. I know it was installed today because of the creation date, but it may very well have downloaded with the adobe program yesterday. I guess I'll have to boycott adobe then if they are going to bundle other programs with their stuff without informing me or giving me an option to not download it.
Hi Eber3,
If you have not managed to uninstall Norton Security Scan, there is a removal tool here to get rid of it.

Best wishes.

Thank you AllenM,
I'm pretty sure I've gotten rid of it, unistalled and deleted the NSSStub per an earlier post. I can now find nothing to indicate it is set to reinstall. However, I'll try that program if it does reinstall on my next boot.
Because "Tons of companies" do this, does that make it right? The only reason I came to this forum want to do is get rid of the pop-ups, not to get a lecture that I should read the fine print. Can anybody tell me how to zap the popups?
