Hey Norton Community, I have a question for you:
Do you know of a thing called "Norton Security Scan", and is it a real Symantec application or some virusy malware stuff?
It came bundled with another application, I didn't notice the little 'click here to not install crap you don't want' button during installation. I didn't even know what it was that'd be installed...
Now, everytime I go AFK for a little while this 'Norton Security Scan' pops up telling me my computer is at risk, from 6 tracking cookies (:O!!!!!!!). Suspecting it was one of those popups/some other horror I just killed it. The second time, I decided to click 'Fix Now' which just takes me to the Symantec shop.
Is it the real shop, or is it a front for stealing my details? Honestly, no idea. I wouldn't have though a free bundled (shovelware?) anti-virus app would find problems, then link you to the companies shop. That's just... I dunno, disgusting in some way. It's that, coupled with the fact there's an advert for DivX in the corner which makes me wonder if this thing is dodgey.
So, is this app real (gives a product SKU: 20260210 and has symantec digi sigs), a disgusting bit of fear mongering money grabbing self promotional rubbish, OR is it quite a clever bit of virusey malware stuff designed to 'steal' your bank details, amking you think you're buying real symantec product?
If it's real, does anyone else think this is bloody dodgey and shouldn't be allowed?
Thanks,
-Ed
