Norton Security should not defrag sold state drives (SSD)

Defragging a SSD is unnecessary and shortens the SSD lifespan.

If you have an SSD, you need to update the following under settings

  1. Under “Tasks Scheduling”, uncheck “Disk Optimization”
  2. Under “Administrative Settings”, set “Idle Time Optimizer” to off

I don't think most Norton users are aware of this issue and the harm of defragmenting a SSD.

Norton Security should detect the presence of the SSD, or ask the user if they are using a SSD, so NS will not defrag the SSD.

Norton Security should update the documentation to warn the user about the harms of defragging a SSD.
