Experienced severe problems caused by Norton Security updates. January 4th, 2018 following Windows updates, I ran Norton Security live update and instantly the graphics display went bad (pixilated, broken display). Updating display adapter driver made no difference. Reinstalled Windows 7, but problem reoccurred following Norton install. I’ve had Norton Security on this computer from the start. Norton techs were not able to resolve the problem through remote access. Second Norton tech informed me the AMD graphic card needs to be replaced and suggested Nvidia graphic card. I did not believe it was a hardware issue. Reinstalled Windows again, ran Windows updates, but left Norton off my pc. Installed a competitors security program and all is good, no problems what-so-ever. Contacted Norton with findings and third tech requested I allow him remote access to reinstall Norton to verify the problem and allow him an opportunity to fix the problem. I reminded him of previous two Norton techs failed efforts. For several years I have paid Symantec in good faith for Norton Security software to protect my computers. Today I find Norton Security corrupts files, more specifically the graphics display components. Norton takes no responsibility, while reading between the lines Norton is clearly aware of problems they’ve caused many. Sad to say the least! Here I have Norton Security bought and paid for but can’t use it. To add insult to injury, third Norton tech insults me by stating “you only have 45 days remaining”, not to mention the entire month of January and first week of February going without. In conclusion, Norton Security update corrupted files causing graphic display component problems rendering my computer unusable. Please note: I am aware of Windows KB4056894 update. It is Norton Security that has caused the problem, not Windows updates. Cheers
Allan I'm following up since it has been some time since your last post. Since your last post numerous customers have had issues with two previous releases of Norton. Both pulled shortly after they were released due to bugs. The current version 22.12.1.15 I have running on all my machines, Intel and AMD without any issues. On my AMD machines I removed the product and rebooted. Reinstalled the product and disabled live updates when Norton was on version 104. They remained that way until I updated them last evening to the current build. ALL now have current products, live update and a manual update both run as they should and no product issues. Recommend you perform the same on your system and please..report your results here if you'd be so kind. Here is the official removal tool download: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v60392881_EndUserProfile_en_us
**Use the advanced setting and perform a REMOVE ONLY. Reboot your system and check for your settings and drivers being correct. The reinstall your product, doing so by logging into your Norton account and download from there. During the install live updates will run once. DO NOT manually run them if your version is at 104.
Cheers
I stand by my February 7th thread. As long as I don't install Norton Security my computer has no issues. When I reinstall Norton Security the graphic display goes entirely bad (pixilated, broken display). Symantec - Norton techs were unable to resolve the issue via remote access. Unable to use this computer for over a month, thus unable to use Norton Security. Spent several hours, days in-fact, trying to resolve the problem. Multiple clean reinstalls of Windows 7. I discovered the problem is caused by Norton Security. Following second Norton tech failed effort via remote access, I was not even able to uninstall Norton Security, because the Norton image was now broken. I again reinstalled Windows, installed a competitors security program and all is working well including all Windows updates on this computer. Symantec / Norton has offered me no compensation for the problems, and time spent on failed security product. Not to mention over a month of down time and not able to use this computer. I've been a loyal customer of Symantec Norton Security for several years on all my computers. No apologies, no offer of compensation, and no consumer relations what-so-ever. Sad, to say the least!
FWIW!! Per my earlier post I have installed KB4056894 on one Intel machine without any issues. It has a hybrid AMD/Intel video setup for gaming and high graphics usage. It didn't present any issues with Norton nor the updates. On my two AMD powered machines things are quite different in that KB4056894 update failed install multiple times. All three have NSBU 22.12.0.104 installed and run perfectly. I'm betting on the next patch Tuesday coming on the 13th to rectify the buggy update that is causing issues. Norton at least on my machines is not an issue.
