I do not want to see the fat blue and yellow shield overlay on all my program shortcut icons--can it be omitted?

Okay, thanks.  I'm not sure why I thought the overlay was associated with NIS.

It's no big deal.

But if you google "Windows UAC shield overlay" you may find a solution that works for you.

I can't remember if it's as easy as turning off UAC or not but I do like the setting that stops the screen from dimming out.

edit- I hate suggesting to people to search for something, sorry about that.

I'm stuck in windows XP right now doing paperwork tonight or I would boot into 7 and try to figure it out.
