Not sure where to post this but I've run Norton Antivirus 2010 and it detected nothing. I've also searched symantec's site trying to find a similar virus to whatever happened to me a few days ago.
It appeared to be most similar to "vicrype" except the internet says affected files will have a .vicrypt but my computer doesn't show any file name change. Also, I've learned that the files are not encrypted but rather zeros have been written to those particular files.
Basically, almost all of my txt, doc, xls, bmp, pdf, psd, and jpg files no longer open but the file names haven't changed and the file sizes have not changed.
Also, all of the files that are affected are in several directories and they all now have the same "last modified" date stamp.
So I'm resigned to the fact that those file are dead but is there a way to "undelete" files that haven't been deleted. Also, are you aware of a particular virus that does this type of damage?
