Norton Spyware and Antivirus Removal

I've been a faithful Norton user through a few computers. My present Norton program will expire in March 2010.

I use my program to scan my computer every other night and I update the antivirus protection on a regular basis (the automatic update is also turned on).

A few days ago popups about viruses on my computer began to show up and a Virus Removal Program warned me that my computer was infected with a bunch of viruses and worms--and I needed to download that program to get rid of the viruses. I didn't think I was infected because my Norton programs told me I wasn't--I scanned with Norton again and just had a tracking cookie problem.....

I figured something had infected my computer since I kept getting these pop-ups--but my computer was still working fine and I wasn't having any problems doing regular work or accessing the internet, etc. I went to the Norton Spyware and Antivirus Removal site to ask for help and a nice technicial told me he'd get rid of the infection and help me keep other infections out for $99.00. I agreed and turned over my Visa number and he sent me to another Norton technician who went through the process of remotely accessing my computer while I watched. He did some computer whiz stuff and deleted some files and then told me to restart my computer----

which wouldn't restart.

After going into safe mode a few times and trying to re-start my computer via his instructions a few times (we'd only get to "media center" on the black screen a few times which led us to the same blue screen each time. The blue screen said some stuff about corruption, bad files being downloaded, etc.

The technician then told me I'd have to contact Dell and get them to help me because the computer was now messed up (even though it was working --with the pop-ups--- before they tried to destroy the infection.

My computer's out of warranty--so it will cost for me to get a technician to even talk to me over the phone. I called Norton again and they offered to refund the $99.00 or try to resolve the problem again. Of course, I asked for them to try to resolve the problem again, and was put on hold, given another case number and told to wait for a technician. The wait time would be 40 minutes and I was asked if I wanted to schedule one to call me. I pressed #1 on the phone pad as I was told and indicated I'd wait for a return call within the hour. Well, two hours have passed, so I got my son's computer and am looking for another way to contact Norton.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for any suggestions--but again, I'm just a computer user not a computer whiz!
