Problem: Norton LiveUpdate won't work.
Process that can be repeated:
- Norton tray icon shows white on red exclamation markup.
- Open Norton, and it shows "Attention! Your virus & spyware definitions are not up to date. Your PC may be at risk of infection." [Fix Now]
Click "Fix Now": Norton does it's "Updating". Shows "Completed" with:
[a] Check for updates > Completed.
[b] Download Updates > Not Required.
[c] Process updates > Not Required.
Click [OK] and screen changes back to
"Fixing" stays for about 1.5 seconds, and changes to
"Fix not complete
Protection Updates > Not Fixed"
Click [Close]
- Screen is back to main GUI with same steps as in step 2 above - and repeats again, and again.
NOTES:
- I must manually use the Update feature. LiveUpdate is Dead. It does not work, never has. But now when I do it, it loops as described above, without any updates.
- It stopped working properly the day my opportunity to get a refund had expired.
- Norton 'techs' have logged in to my computer, removed and re-installed Norton (after I already did the same the two times I was requested to do so) without success.
Box info:
- Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a 64 bit box with 4g RAM.
- Norton Security version (unable to copy & paste)
- There is/was a previous post of mine regarding a similar problem, but this has escalated in to a worse one.
- There are no other items that would block Norton at the firewall.
- I have 316 days remaining, it's time Norton Internet Security starts working right, before the days count down any more.
- I didn't contact tech support via chat (the volume of text would be too much), and didn't phone again because I really don't think that logging in to my computer and removing and reinstalling Norton again, and again is going to change anything.
SUMMARY:
At the start, my problem was that the only way to keep Norton "up-to-date" was to do so manually. To remember this, I created a reminder in Windows calendar that pops up each time the computer is booted. his worked and I as able to remember to update manually each day.
This new problem now is, that even manual attempts fail to get updates. Auto-updates fail too.
Ideas?
