Issue abstract: Norton support horrible. Tired of Norton messages suddenly popping up.
Detailed description:
I tried using the Norton website to report a problem I was having but it just spun, never finishing no matter how I tried to report it.
So I called the Norton support center. I could hardly understand the first person I spoke with, who told me to hold on while he transferred me to a tech specialist. Then he hung up.
Later I got a call from the support specialist. I was angry about how Norton blasts Always-on-top messages while I’m logged in no matter what I’m doing, even gaming or something more important. What’s worse, at least once I could not get rid of it without logging out.
Your support specialist said to me “ok let me cancel your subscription”!!!
When I got angry and told him not to do that, he hung up on me!!
THAT’S how you solve problems? Norton has always been in-your-face with messages it could easily have sent in email, as they are usually non-critical. I’m getting really tired of this and actually might cancel my subscription now that I see how you support your customers.
Product & version number: Norton 360
OS details: Windows 10
What is the error message you are seeing? Can’t get rid of pop-up without logging out
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:
I mentioned this to a friend, who thinks he may have fixed this. We’ll see.
Nope, still a problem. I was on my bank site paying off my credit card balance tonight and “POP!”, there’s a pop-up from Norton trying to convince me to use their VPN while banking. And once again, there was no way I could see to get rid of it.
Last time this happened, I even got into Task Manager and looked for the pop-up to kill it. Not there. So I started shooting Norton background tasks and they only respawned. So I was forced to log out to get rid of the unwanted notice. What made me angry was I had all my apps, windows and web tabs set up the way I wanted them. So now, I had to start over. Why? Because some application, I pay money for, decides it’s more important than anything I’m doing.
Tonight though, I continued my business with the bank, and logged out of the bank’s website. Shortly thereafter, the pop-up went away on its own! THIS is the crap I’m talking about. How can I turn this stuff off? Supposedly it’s turned off in the settings, but I’m still being harassed.
I got a voicemail from some support person in India (I think) to call him back. Maybe I should. Hope it isn’t the same guy.
@John_Purretta I have escalated your initial post to Norton for the support team to get involved with. Others on the forums may have a good answer that may be of assistance with your issue as well.

Ok, this is getting weird. I just finished giving a review of a restaurant I went to recently, and the same pop-up about VPN’s came up again. No way to get rid of it. So I did a ctrl-shft-print to get a snapshot of the screen, and it’s not in the snapshot!! I did this 2 times to make sure before it slid down the bottom of the screen and went away.
I don’t see this in Task Manager, and print screen doesn’t capture it. What the heck!
John, post a screenshot of the popup for us to review. Seeing exactly what you are seeing would help immensely in assisting.

Thank you for your reply. I never heard of this snipping tool before. I have it running now. I may even take a photo picture just in case. Can’t mask that!

It happened to me again. I was in my Fidelity Investments account and the pop-up said something about secure banking. Sorry, I don’t remember the exact phrase, but here’s some interesting info.
The pop-up is NOT seen by the snipping tool. Just as it wasn’t seen in paint.
The pop-up is NOT seen in task manager.
(This is disconcerting)
The pop-up is skewed to the right off the screen! THAT is probably why I can’t get rid of it. I can’t get to the X button.
I have a 4K monitor running at 3840x2160 resolution with scaling set to 350%.
I think this is the bug with Norton. It doesn’t seem to handle that.
I have seen several other program pop-ups in the bottom right corner, and none of them get chopped like the Norton pop-up.
Hope this helps.
By the way. If I wait long enough, it goes away on its own but it’s very intrusive if I’m in the middle of something and it’s “always on top”.
Happened again just now when connected to my Bank.
pop-up says…
Bank more securely with Nor — then chopped.
The other lines were something about using a vpn but like I said, everything is chopped off on the right side, including the X button to get rid of it.
Boy I wish someone would fix this. It’s SO annoying!
The latest release was supposed to correct this issue but it is still persisting. Norton knows of it and are actively trying to correct it. Hoping sooner than later. Is your Windows scaling set to above 100% by chance?
FWIW!! Browsers these days are adding so much on their own “snake oil” and AI its epically pathetic to use them in a functional way anymore. Edge, I use in an emergency, Chrome? Wouldn’t use that trash if there were no others to use. FF, much the same as Chrome, too many changes and always a day late, a dollar short with functionality. Opera GX is my personal choice and never fails me. Just a small note.

Yes
>> I have a 4K monitor running at 3840x2160 resolution with scaling set to 350%.
Thank you for your confirmation Norton knows of the issue.
btw, I’ve been using Firefox since it was previously known as Netscape. Can’t say I’ve had too many issues.
Correction:
The pop-up is NOT seen by the snipping tool. Just as it wasn’t seen in paint.
Not paint, I mean ctrl+shift+print screen
