Norton System Tray Icon Greyed Out

I used Norton Internet Security for years, and recently upgraded to Norton 360 Standard. All was well until a day ago when my system tray greyed out, grey not yellow with a green tick. The Norton 360 is working fine, doing scans updates, etc, I want to know why the icon is greyed out and if I need worry.

I haven't set up online backup or secure VPN yet which may be the reason for the grey icon?

There was a thread in 2019 about this exact situation which suggested it was FF browser as the cause, and on another site that it was a Norton bug caused then fixed by an update.

Does anyone else have this problem, and any suggestions.

This is true, and when I turned on silent mode it greyed out. However I usually keep silent mode off, so I am hoping this is a one time problem.

For now the problem is resolved. If it recurs without silent mode I will post again.

Thank you for your help.

It would be turning off the Silent Mode that changed back the icon. You can test by turning on and off Silent Mode again and watching the icon's behaviour.

In fact the icon does look like that.

I ran the Live Update again, and turned off silent mode, and restarted the pc, and it is fixed!

I am not sure which of these fixed it but it is now good.

Thank you for your help.

Curious, does your system tray icon look like = Silent Mode

I have run Live Update a few times, and restarted, with no change. Will try again.

Thanks.

Have you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available? Then restart again. Restarting, not shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled.   If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10 or 11, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature..
